i dug this eagle button recently at an old house site. i'm not sure if it's civil war era or not, but have saw several buttons just like it on the relic forums. the button is a very pretty chocolate color with gold gilding on the eagle. there is no writing on the back of the button. can someone tell me what it is and if it has any value? thanks ......roger

I would call your button civil war era. As the war effort geared up, some of the button companies stopped putting their maker's mark on the buttons. That is not to say your button was made during the war years but the odds would favor that assumption. It appears to be a very nice speciman and has handled the aging quite well.

it is a general service button looks like it was made during peacetime cause its facing the olive branches ? it is definately civil war era better get back there and comb that place gotta be some more value i think is around25 to 45 dollars depending on condition :csflag:

shilohwig, thanks for the information on the button i found. this button really is in great shape for being buried in the ground for so many years. its condition made me think it was much newer than what i was seeing on some of the relic sites. is this something a collector would be interested in or is a common button? thanks for the info..........roger

well you could always sale it but its a pretty common button not in high demand be best to hang on to it its just gonna go up they dont make em anymore :)
