Have never found one like this before. Back mark reads COLOR at the bottom can't make out the top. Looks like four letter word ending with CH. It's small, measures 1/2" diameter. thanks, Bill

Rich Color---I'd guess civilian 1800's, but man thats scary, it's a star?..... a TTTTT TEXAS STAR, I'de like to hope so for ya.
Dave

I'd like to think so but I believe they had five point stars and this one has six.

I see 7 point star... <img src="/metal/html/glasses.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":geek:">

the back looks to show evidence of an era where those buttons were prevelant. the back sides will say like: select color, orange gilt,etc.....not stating a claim... just a random thought for consideration.

it probably says "rich colour". English spelling. Or it could say "extra rich color". Nice button and very old! Donnie V

Rich Color is most likely the correct b/m. Date is most likely around the 1830s. You really have to research those star buttons closely. Florida for example, was one Southern State who's Militia used a multi-pointed star to signify a particular unit or State Guard. Not many "button books" that identify Military buttons will cover this era. You'll need to research the early buttons. Sometimes identified as civilian. Good hunting, David @ Dixie
