Hi all, I'm new to this forum but have hunted relics for over 20 yrs. I hunted in the Fredericksburg Va area for about 13 yrs...found a lot of stuff. I moved to eastern NC 7 yrs ago and recently have gotten re-inspired. Today I found a smashed eagle "D" button , what appears to be some sort of clover leaf shaped pin (some sort of Corp badge?) and a button that i have not positively identified . I'm reasonably sure it's either an early Marine Corps button or a navy button. I tried to take a pic of it but it keeps coming out too blurry , I found an exact match of the button on a website ...here is the link

my button is identical to the button on the lower right of bottom two pics (eagle over anchor , lined , heavy gilt, 3 piece, 5 point stars all around the perimeter )....backmark is Scovill & Co Waterbury anyone know what it is?
BTW , anyone in the Duplin , Wayne, Johnston or Sampson county areas interested in getting together for a hunt or sharing /swapping hunting sites , get in touch . Thanx all....I'm looking forward to sharing more finds in the near future.

Looks to be 1837-50 Navy. Are you sure its a 3 piece? Tice's book lists a 2 piece 22mm and 23mm that are very similar. Nice find! BTW... I am in Johnston County. PM me.
Mike
