Button i.d. in Maryland

We live in house built in 1766, just outside of Washington, D.C. A metal detecting enthusiast has just started working in our yard and today found this button. He thinks it may be gold. It looks like it has a flower (like a daisy) in the center, and then additional dots around the edges. There is no name or brand on it. The button loop on the back snapped when I was cleaning it but it was intact when we found it. Any ideas as to its age? It's very pretty. Thanks for your help!

I would guess that it's a Golden Age button. (1820-1850) Seems to be the style for that period. I'm not an expert though.
