Button button, who's got the button:

I do! We hunted a yard here in town and there was this big tree in the front yard. I got this deep signal, started digging and didn't get too far before I hit this doggone big root. It was me or the root that was going to keep whatever it was that was giving me a good signal. Needless to say, I didn't loose! Kept digging little by little and finally I saw the button. Larry has done some checking on it and it's an Illinois 1A - Army staff officer's button most likely from the 1830's. It's got a full back mark. :wiggle: Just before that I had a wheat cent signal and low and behold it was the 1941 Merc. dime. Boy, that was strange. I also got the wheats and a few odd and ends. Thanks for looking and HH, Nancy

Hi Fred  The VDI was jumpy somewhere around 50's to the mid 70's. I thought maybe I was going to find an Indian Cent. I'll take the button instead. Larry said he would pay me $1 for it. Do you think that's a good deal? The weather was very nice out today. I honestly don't know what the temp was, but I had a sweatshirt on and I was quite comfortable. It's strange for us to have this warm of weather so close to December. I'm not complaining, I love it. HH, Nancy

[size=large][sub] Nice find, wish I could find something like that around here, but the war never made it this far.. I guess I could look for Custer's buttons from his coat, but I don't know which indian tribe took it from him to start my search, mmmmmmm, oh well, I'll stick to coins and gold nuggets..... Good day! Cliff

HI Berry, I had my stock 9.5 coil on and the button was about 6 inches down or so. Felt like a foot. Those darn roots were everywhere. HH, Nancy

Nancy,

That is a beautiful button. It looks like it was lost yesterday instead of nearly 200 years ago. What a super find. What is the writing on the button? Can't quite make it out..Congratulations Nancy!

Pete

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the kind words. It sure surprised me when I pulled it out of the ground and then when Larry told me what type of button it is. The banner says, " State Sovereignty - National Union". It's the Illinois state motto. How cool is that!

Good to hear from you and HH,
Nancy
