I need help identifying this button. It says OHIO on the front and Waterbury Button Co. On the back. Found with my ACE250.

Appears to be an Ohio State Seal button, possibly from the Civil War era. Google " Ohio State Seal Button" and compare your button to the pictures.

I tried researching on google and haven't had the greatest results. I was hoping someone here knew a little more than I have been able to find. I even wrote the Waterbury button Co. But they have not responded.

Assuming that you dug this out of the ground. I don't believe that button is very old. I could be wrong.

The front is way too clean to have been in the ground long at all,,unless you think it is silver or maybe even plated. (front only)
Does it have a design on the front?? hard to tell from the pic.

The back is interesting and makes me scratch my head about everything I have said. lol It does have the look of a older style button.

I refer to age because I have no way of looking up a newer button. They make a million of them every day! And the older buttons are very difficult also. And need every detail possible to ID,,most of the time. (I only have books for older buttons)

How about some more pictures?? Use a cigarette lighter to get more light on the picture. I found it works best,,use any other light and it blinds the camera!!
Where did you find it??

I will have to try and get some better pictures. It was about 5 inches deep. It was dug at the site of an old church in Central ohio. The church was relocated, but I grew up here and knew its original location. In addition I know the property owner. It may be silver plated, as it did not take much effort to cleanup. I found similar buttons on the web, but no details to help me date it. I found an Artillery Officers button from the civil war a few months back, but all of the gold had decayed away.

No clue.:shrug:Did ya try askin' on the Whatzit Forum?:wiggle:
Cool find!:thumbup:Thanks for sharing!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

Seems like every button ever made was made in Waterbury. I bet they get questions every day. Nice find.

Waterbury is one of those antebellum companies that had made buttons for over 150 years, for both sides of the civil war and every type of application. Still a very cool find. :)
