I believe the most current is Millitary Buttons of the United States 1767-1865 by Warren K. Tice. It is also very expensive from what I have seen. I have not bought one because of this. Alberts button book is also pretty good ,it is older and not as up to date and is much cheaper. Hope this helps...HH

The only problem I had with Alberts book was it showed a louisiana pelican button I had found as being civil war period. I later found out that it was post war. It was a bummer I even dug it in a campsite with multiple good civil war finds. I believe that Tices book showed the correct lineage of the back mark for the button I had. Which was showed being post war.
