What is the "bible" on identifying button from the civil war or prior? If anybody has one for sale please let me know. Thanks.

Uniform Buttons of the United States, 1776-1865: Button Makers of the United States, 1776-1865; Button Suppliers to the Confederate States, 1800-1865; Antebellum and Civil War Buttons of U.S. Forces (Hardcover)

Not an expert - but this is one of the best books I think for military buttons before and during the civil war. There is a great American Revolutionary War button book and that is:

Military Buttons of the American Revolution (Hardcover) by Don Troiani (Author), Michael J. O'Donnell (Photographer)

Both are in the $30-40 range and available from your local book dealer by order -- or if necessary via an on-line bookcompany.
