Button and bullet ID help

Kapok

Active member
I found these two items here in Michigan and can't tell if either is old. The bullet is small. I'm not a gun guy, but it's larger than a .22, but definitely not the size of a Civil War bullet people find down south. The button is about the size of a nickel and is hollow on the back.

Any ID help would be appreciated.

My guess is a Union 2 ringer, but just a guess.

What is the diameter and length? Can you measure it with a set of digital calipers?

Sorry, I"m not that sophisticated. I can put a ruler to it tonight and let you know.

As near as I can tell, it's about 11/16 x 5/16

Those dimensions would place it around a .31 to .32 caliber. I don't see anything in the McKee & Mason or the Thomas & Thomas books that would be a match. It looks close to the Savage but they are flat base and .36 caliber.

Interesting. Do you think it's old, or no way to tell?

Definitely old just based on the style and patina. I also checked the online Bullet and Cartridge Gallery but no luck.

While not an expert, but a long time CW hunter, that bullet is late. The button is civilian and nice!

So the bullet is not old then? Someone told me it might be from the 1920s or 30s.

Anything you can tell me about the button, or how I might find out? I googled a picture of it and found a few dead links, that was all.
