Butterfly Coils for F75 LTD ??

Bryan V

New member
Hi Everyone.
I am new to the forum.
I am just getting back into metal detecting after being out of the hobby
for about 10 years.
I just bought a F75 LTD and I was just wondering if anyone has tried the
Excelerator S.E.F. (Butterfly) coils on the F75 or 75 LTD.
Can't seem to find anyone talking about them.

I would also like to know what would be the best gold prospecting coil for the LTD.
It will be my back up to a GMT I just bought for nugget hunting.

I should mention that I will be using the LTD for mostly coin and jewelry hunting in old
parks, schools, and yards.

Thanks,
Bryan V

I knew there was the 10x12" for the F70/75/LTD but I see realize they have a 12"x15" too! I would love to see some field test comparisons between these and the 11" Fisher DD.

The thought of a 15x12" DD on the F75 LTD is mind boggling....even if you only gained an inch or two, it could really open some new possibilities....hmmm....Santa is it too late???

I saw a review that basically said you get more coverage (obviously), but no addtional depth, to speak of, and the weight was a factor. I wish Fisher would offer a 14" coial for the F series, but then I'd have to invest in a backhoe to recover deep targets :detecting:

Yes sir

been watching em in Merry Ole England......mindful that these test where done on the first few....we where contemplating spending 400 dollars to get em in house.... me and Shawn got the big k to place an order and as a dealer we where able to take advantage of the dealer discounts...we have one for the T2 Ltd and one for the F75 Ltd in the air for delivery any day now......these test you read about where done on the old F75 ......not the new LTD's .......anyway that is the rest of the story so stay tuned if you want the Real Nuts and Bolts....

jimpugh ps A Craftsman is only as good as the tools he uses.... in his tool box!

it does get better surface coverage, but thats about it. Depth doesnt seem to be any better than the stock coil, and it weighs a ton. you cant tighten the bolt enough to keep it from flopping around. dont have the separation the 11" coil does either. I dont see any advantge to it at all. I like the stock coil a lot better. NE

Are you using it on the legacy F75 or the F75 LTD ?

I've used it on both units. It doesnt even seem to match the stock coil, let alone do better than it. And if your in stubble or heavy grass, its a nightmare to use. its literally hung on my wall now for a long time collecting dust.

Thanks NE digger. That's disappointing to hear.

I have friends running these SEF coils on their Explorer and V3 and they love them, I wonder why their duds on the Fisher F-series?

I tend to take it all with a grain of salt.....I have used SEF coils before and I have never seen a bad one or one that would not out perform the stock Coil....period....
But hey If those are your findings... your certainly entitled to say so....Just seems a bit strange.....

Take the MXT for instance. I've spoken to a number of MXT users that have reported decent performance gains with the S.E.F over the stock coil, but the stock coil on that machine is a garden variety concentric. The Stock F75 coil is a 11" open frame elliptical DD, and in my opinion the best coil design in the industry right now. That makes it a hard act to follow. I stand by my assessment. Test garden and real world tests show no improvement in my soil over the stock F75 coil. Some may find otherwise, but my test garden doesnt lie. (to me anyway) Add to the lackluster performance the heavier weight and larger size, and I just dont see value in the coil (S.E.F.).The smaller one may perform better, but I dont have that one so can't rightfully comment on it. Have you experienced different results in your soil with the SEF on the F75? I'd be interested in hearing your results and the settings you may have used.

The f75 and the shadow X5 where both designed by Dave Johnson They (FT) now own FRL and have owned it since release of the F75......

If you look at the Searcher review of the SEF coils you will notice in his test Data that the 12X15 holds neck and neck with the stock coil on coin size targets.......But on larger size targets like Belt Plates(his test on crotia bell) it will leave it in the dust.....or small or large cache's would be where larger coils excel as well as discovery of the hot spots in large areas to hunt...

You may say why is ole jim doing this ......well I hunt a lot and I have been Know to build coils ......I built a 11 DD for the X5 that blew every thing away ....but the gentleman was just interested in 6X10.............mainly for prospecting......So to build better coils one must know what is available to the public and know it like the back of his hand....

Jim while were on the topic of coils, I have a question for you

I've read several times that for some odd reason or another it wasn't possible to design a DD that would work on the CZ machines. This to me seems very odd. Any ideas why it's been reported that a DD was a no go on the CZ line?

Thanks,
Brian

If I remember right it had something to do with analog /digital Dual frequency "Fourier Domain analysis method"
I have not looked into even though i am a big fan of the CZ5 and a past fisher repair center...

Hello,

How do the Detech coils work with the F75LTD? I am thinking about purchasing a 10x12 for my F75, but I am not sure. I have read some reviews from over seas that are good, but it is hard to find
good information on the 10x12 coil. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Bill
