We visited a while, then had lunch before heading out to the surrender site of the Civil War at Appomattox. We showed him how our new little puppy "Tumbles" was not the mutant hell dog from from a horror movie as Copperhead had warned. We also introduced him to some of our other pets. Here Butch is holding "Smoky", while his wife Pam is holding an albino snake "Chubby Red"... We're having fun now, Eh Butch?

Ater lunch it was off the Appomattox Civil War park. It was a beautiful sunny day, and only a handful of people were there. We walked the hallowed grounds and hit the the gift shop. Butch signed the big guest book with a big X.
Here Butch, Pam and I are standing in front of the McLean house, where Lee surrendered to Grant. My wife Sharon said I shouldn't post this picture, because its such a bad photo of Butch and I, but its the only picture I had... hey, I always thought I kind of looked like Mr. Magoo anyway. Butch looks like the rouge cop on "Shield"

We went to this small, mostly Confederate cemetery, where some of the soldiers that were killed on the last day of the Civil War were buried. Unfortunately, the one lone American flag, was a soldier who was killed after the signing, declaring the war had ended. Killed by a cannon fired by the Confederates, into the Appomattox village.

We walked to this lone grave site of a Confederate soldier, the son of the man who owned the general store in Appomattox during the Civil War. The tree beside the grave has been struck by lightning 9 times, so the Park Service says. You might call it a Virginia bonzai tree.

Today we're going detecting if we don't get rained out~ but first we're going to Farmville, and going through a couple of antique shops. While we're there, Butch and I will be getting an espresso before we go out in to the fields... we want to enjoy the full spectrum of the perils of detecting.
More later.
