4. Rock hammer,shovel,pick check,check check
5 Everything anyone could possibly ever need for a trip shooting in the desert, load country or the beach.
To the point i am going to have to thin it out before i go. CHECK.
6. TIME TO ACTUALLY GET OUT SWINGING..........................................CANT FIND IT!!!!!!!!!!

I am located in Burbank Ca.
And if anyone in my area regularly makes it out,
i dont care where too, beach, desert, mountains, and would not mind me tagging along, please let me know.
I HAVE TO GET OUT AND ACTUALLY USE THIS MACHINE SOMEPLACE OTHER THAN MY FRONT YARD.
I went out and almost bought another machine yesterday.(whites V3i).
This is NUTS.
Its all i can do not to get the GPX5000 they have hanging on the wall, AND I HAVE NOT GOTTEN THE TDI IN THE FIELD YET.
NO ONE TOLD ME ABOUT THE SIDE EFFECTS OF THIS DISEASE.........
NOT FAIR!!!!!!!!!!

The TDI will be ok for the beach or nugget prospecting, but will be a difficult land machine for coins/relics/jewelry. It's REEAALLL squirrely to try to use in the average junky urban park, for instance.

To find pepole to hook up with and learn the ropes, get on the XXXXXXXXX(which is specific just to CA hunters, and gets a lot of traffic). To get to the main page though, you have to sign up. But it's easy: just pick a name and a password. Lots of So. CA nice guys there, who do well at the beach, turf, etc....

You my friend are in the middle of everything....
Lots of older parks and schools. Sidewalks with some grass. The beach, and lakes all nearby.
You could take a trip to Griffith park, watch out for the poison sumac and oak.
Unfortunately i am in NYC right now.

shoot3d, I guess I'll need to PM you the CA specific forum address, as I guess it's against rules here to put a name of another forum.

Though there may be other geographic specific forums out there, you know the psychology of "crowds draw crowds". It just evolves that whatever one was floating first, and had a few key participants, just grew. Contrast to trying to start a new one now (ie.: like trying to make a new auction site to compete with ebay, for instance) is next to impossible, no matter how superior a subsequent site might be.

Here is a local club which has a couple of mining claims in the Antelope Valley. They also have meeting once a month and outings. Friendly Group : http://mysite.verizon.net/res8ddr8/antelope_valley_treasure_hunters_society/index.html
I go out to the claims, but not often enough

I'm in Santa Monica and try to go out every day with my detector after work, or as time permits. I started with an original Gold Bug :fisher: prospecting years ago, but I got serious about non-prospecting with a detector early this year. I have gone thru 3 different detectors in about as many months until I got the one I want to keep - a Whites V3i. You could do much worse. :detecting: :whites:

I do have one complicating factor - I live in SM Monday - Thursday, but my home is actually in the High Desert - Hesperia. Now you understand why I started out prospecting. Anyway, due to the economy I live in Santa Monica for work, but go home on weekends because it is too far to commute daily. So I am up for detecting in the LA area and would love to have someone to detect with after work.

I am also up for detecting in the desert on weekends, but with summer month coming on that is a really BAD idea until the fall. I have lived in the Mojave for more than 25 years and I can tell you it is no place to be if you intend to go out work hard (and prospecting done right is) during the daylight hours in the summer months. Most do so after dark in the summer time and I frankly quit due to the desert snakes being attracted to our lights - and they are!! Mojave Green snakes have very bad attitudes and do not seem to like much of anything. I swear I am not kidding, I have seen them chase people and dogs as they are very aggressive. :surprised: Crossing their path is a mistake, one most animals don't survive, including humans. :stretcher: So better to wait to do desert prospecting until early October.
