Bummed!

Took 3 yrs to get permission to hunt a 1700s church that is on historic registrr.... Only to have the adjacent property owner, after swinging for 4 hrs, tell me that there has been detectors hunting it for 30 yrs... Took the wind out of my sail. Nevertheless, the CTX only picked an IHP from the site. I really expected more from the site and certainly the CTX sniffing out what other sub standard machines missed... No magic to it. If a sites been hit hard, the score ratio goes down, regardless of CTX or not.

Too many people don't care about getting permision on private property. Do you have a 17" coil? IT could eek out some more.

I think going big like Jason said or small 6" is the way to go where many have gone before. Mostly I would go small for better separation of targets. Don't worry about the guys who have detected it before you. I've done tons of places that were hunted out and done very well. You will too.

Good points, in fact talked to my buddy about that. The other thing is going back to thst site when I have a couple other newer sites that have been producing. I guess I could shelf it for now until, I need a change of scenary,

I have been hunting a school built in the 1920's for 30+ years and had all but given up finding anymore silver there. It has been pounded by many detectorist with about every machine you can imagine The end of last season I bought a new E Trac and it was like it was virgin ground again! pulled over a dozen silvers out of there the first week including a barber half! A few weeks ago I bought the CTX 3030 and took it there and once again I was hitting silver just like "the old days"! Pulled over a dozen more silvers out including a 1902 Morgan silver dollar!
Low and slow and keep working it. I ran my E Trac with an open screen so I would not have to worry about the null you get when discriminating hiding a good target. No place is ever "Hunted out" you just have to work a little harder at it. You have an great machine and it will find silver there just give it a chance.

I think we all feel that disappointment (often), mcb13.

Folks have been detecting for 50 yrs in most areas. Just finding an undetected spot, and getting permission to hunt it, is in itself, a major find!

In the last couple years, I have actually found more gold rings/jewelry in my older areas, than silver coinage. Over the years many people have cherry picked the easy silver, while disregarding those signals falling in the gold, pull tab, can slaw realm. I on the other hand, have concentrated my efforts in that area, with good success.

No matter how you look at it, the hobby is getting more challenging with each passing year!

MI, good point and common sense. As far as hunted out coin wise.. It seems like many folks often say" never hunted out". However, we all know and lets not kid ourselves, that a fresh spot that yields multiple coins is certainly not like a pounded spot. Yes, there are targets most likely still in every spot, but pounded sites have few and far between keepers. I think people use that term just to keep their motivation and project a possitive attitude. Not busting on the folks that stay possitive, but reality is reality. I personally, would rather hunt a new unknown location that to hint a site and score a keepers every 2 or 3 trips. Inless, Spanish Silver or Gold coin likelihood. Have a great New Year!

Yea, people that don't follow ethical practices in metal detecting cause land owners
to have a bad impression of the rest of us. My parks manager for the city has given
me permission to hunt all schools and parks in the city limits because I asked. He
came up to me the other day to ask to pull him out of a bog in the park and I did.
That's when he told me he had turned down 3 others and run off 1 guy that didn't ask.
He actually allowed the 3 to hunt but after 20 minutes, said they were not repairing
the grass so he told them to leave and not come back.

Update, I nust went to a pounded early 1800s site with the 6" coil around torn down brick schoolhouse... Nada. I still have the same opinion. Next hint will teturn with the 17", see how that does in the adjacent field that has produced Reales prior. Thinking about hosting a challege at thus spot for those that think its not , almost hunted out. Any takers in Mid Atlantic?

Update 2, went back to yesturdays site with 17" coil. Managed 2 early mercs. Onecwas in the ssme area as searched with 6" coil, probably a overlapping issue with the 6. The other was in firld prior hunted with 11" Pro coil. So, I suppose this proves to some degree that the site wasnt hunted out. However, 2 mercs in 4hrs doesnt make me feel like rushing back their. Personally, I still feel the keepers are few and far between, and nearly hunted out.
