Bullets & Dimes

Cuts

It's an interesting hobby, and not without surprise from time to time. One such surprise is finding copper shell casings with brass primers that register as dimes on my Ace 250. I dug one tonight in 4" of balck dirt while looking for a survey marker in the yard. After pinpointing the target, which is getting a little easier with practice, I found a 32 caliber casing right where the detector showed it to be. By the way, the casing laid slightly angled in the hole.

Does the Ace register the shell casing as CLAD because of the two metals, which are present?

My f70 reads mid foil on a 22cal. Ironically it reads 22 VDI for a 22cal rim fire which has no primer. I may have to change my thinking. I always thought shell casings were made of brass since that is what ammo re-loaders call empty casings. I know for a fact that a piece of thickwall copper tubing comes in high and sweet like a quarter on my 70. I like to compare unique finds between the 250 and the 70 . They are always similar.
