bullet like object found on beach

John in LaPorte

New member
Can anyone help with identifying this. Found on a beach in Portsmouth, UK. looks like it was under water for a long time. Steel or iron, looks to be hollow but filled with solidified sediment(?). the ring or collar is brass /bronze/copper . weighs ~ 35 gram ms.

Possible a lipstick tube? Good luck with the ID

John,
Did you ever find out what the object was? I found dozens of the same object on the beach at the Outer Banks in North Carolina U.S.A.
I also am very curious as to what they may be.

20x72RB antitank round?

Or some other 20mm bullet. They made them in 70 and 72mm and bigger.

The picture here looks somewhat similar. 20mm might have been used in beach defenses? (Pure speculation on my behalf.)

More pictures of 20mm rounds can be seen on the wikipedia site. 20mm.

Another site. Look at the 20x72RB here, they have a fat band on the base of the bullet. Bottom of the page.
