Bullet ID????

Thought those were barrel grooves but your pictures proved me wrong. Good to have you back in the grass and mud again. I'll bet it beats sand all to hell.
LOL.

... for sure but that mark on the nose appears cut and not a ram rod mark. So, my theory is it may be a carved chess peice, possibly a rook. I've got a friend that found a whole set made from minnies less four pawns and your minnie resembles his rooks... just an idea, nice find !!! HH

... not a rook. Modern bishops have an angled slot as well, and it looks like the bottom ring was cut off so it would not be higher than the king or queen since that peice flanks them... just my wild guess... HH

The one bullet I found in the other field has a mark in the botton groove which looks like someone may have started cutting on it. Still a nice find <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

John, this is Jeff (from WV). I think I dug one like that at H-Town, 3 ringer with 2 rings left whittled with a blade.

Soldier cuts the botton ring off the bullet; next, he screws his "worm" (wiper jag: tool designed to retreive oil rags from the barrel) into his ram rod. Then he screws in the bullet by hand (bullet was never in the gun barrel. He then proceeds to whack Jethro on his head, thus putting the flats or all around the sides of the bullet. Well, maybe he whacked on something like brick or other hard flat surface..lol. Wouldn't take much force to put the facets that I see due to the softness of lead. Two remaining grooves do appear to be compressed however. May only guess at what he was actually doing. Nice find regardless. Welcome back, David @ Dixie
