Bullet cache!

Hello everybody. Check out this amazing cache of bullets I dug with my SE. They were all found in the same area. I like the ones that are damaged from impacting something. I assume that all the bullets are from the civil war because of the three-ringers. If anyone has any additional info on the bullets, I'd love to hear it. These were found at a park along the Chattahoochee river in Atlanta. What amazed me was how shallow the vast majority of them were. 1/3 of them could have been eyeball finds! All the others were max 2" deep. There were shell casings mixed in and I was wondering if they used shells back then. Enjoy the pics!

pibb66, I hate to tell you as I know very well what the thrill of digging CW relics is all about, but I'd rather be honest with you before someone leads you along or gives you false information. Your bullets are modern muzzle loading bullets, thus the shallow finds. You can, and will on occasion find authentic shallow CW bullets, but I recognize these as modern. Could be from a North/South muzzle loading association event. Some are modern "hardball" military ammo (copper jacket, lead base). Hang on to them for learning purposes and comparison to civil war projectiles. Keep looking, your in the right area. GH, David@Dixie

modern type bullets with copper jackets and some are early to mid 1900's and most are of smaller calibers unlike the large calibers from the CW era. You have found an area that was used as target practice. Here's what CW bullets look like.

Notice the size of these minies ( and 1 carbine ) compared to my hand( and I have a good sized hand). The ones in my hand are from a .52 cal. Smith Carbine up to a .71 cal. Austrian. Hope this sheds some light on your bullet questions. HH and good luck on you're future bullet diggin!!

What a let down! I dug for hours thinking I had hit the jackpot! I've added a picture of a pin that I found in the same area. I did some research on this and I think it is from the 1930's. Do you think the bullets are about that old? Any value at all?
