Bulgin in line connector problem ??

Help please ,
I have just done a mod on my mk1 Excalibur and fitted a 15" wot coil using Bulgin inline connectors .
I know the unit is fine coz Iv just got it back from Minelab Ireland were it had a full service .( minus the coil ) :clapping:
The first time out with the excalibur I found a gold ring so I know its getting down there !! but after a few minutes it goes crazy
then settles down and hunts ok again ????
When I did the mod I wiped the wires , screw connectors and wire clamps with silicone to make it more water tight ??
Do you think it could be tracking through the silicone inside the connector ? could it be a bad connection inside the connector ?
have I done right or wrong wiping silicone everywhere ?
I thought of soldering the wires together just to eliminate the in line doubt , and try again ? :wiggle:
help please ? has anyone had a similar problem ??
many thanks Tony Weston :ukflag:
