Building My Own Excalibur Shaft

Thanks for all the previous feedback on straight shafts for the Excalibur. I know there are a lot of quality aftermarket options out there, but just for the fun of it I am going to build my own behind the elbow shaft. I have already purchased the correct aluminum tubing with the 7/8 OD and the .745 ID. Any suggestions/tips for drilling holes, handle options, rod finishes (high quality paint?) or anything else would be appreciated.
