Bugs everywhere!!

But I don't mind cuz one was a GOLD bug!! After yesterdays hunt where I got a total of 39 cents in about 3 hrs. hunt time, I just had to try and redeem my sorry wretched soul. I headed out at daylight and was ready to hit the water with a single minded determination to find some treasure. When I got to the lake, what did I see but another water hunter...with an AT Pro!! Dangit!! So, I wandered over to where she was and chatted with her a bit. She was just starting out water hunting, second time out. Since she was a bit on the short side, I said I would just hunt the deep part of the swim area as I'm over 6 foot tall and she could hunt the shallow part out to as far as she could go. So that's how it was for about and hour and a half. Then she sez there was nothing to find and packed up and departed. Up to that point, I had a few coins and one junk earring. I continued the hunt and moved up into the shallows after a bit, just in case. Sure enough, I started scoopin' a few coins and then a SS spinner ring and then a nice little 10k butterfly ring. Sure glad there wasn't anything to find in the shallows!!! Yeah, right!!

So here's the total take for the day!!

And the 2 rings closeup after a bit of cleaning and mandrel work on the 10k!!

The little 10k is only 1.9 grams, but every bit of gold helps......especially in the redemption department!!

BigCatDaddy WTG Like that Gold Bug, Did you use the Stock coil???? Mickfin

Very nice BCD. Aren't you glad that it was a butterfly and not a bear on the ring! 'cause that might just be a bug bear.:poke:
I'll have you to know that I only just out hunt you on Saturday with my GTI /Cibola. I managed a massive 40c! Exciting stuff. OK, you beat me with your rings>

Getting a new species......"gold butterflies" like you, will surely make him want to catch a few himself

Wow! What are the odds of finding two nice pieces of jewelry with bugs on them in one day? And Really what are the odds of meeting a girl who detects? Was she married?
Mud

The bug part was kinda strange. The lady I saw, I had actually met her and her husband a couple of years ago at a competition hunt in Galveston. They're a retired couple that got into detecting just lately.

Ah, so it was A Cibola you got from the Tesoro line. I was wondering what kind you had. It's not a bad thing to have different brands of detectors. I've got some Tesoros, Minelabs, one Fisher, A DetectorPro, and a boatload of Garretts. Some days I like a display with multi-tones and some days I want to swing a one-toned beep-dig machine. I've found good loot with all of the machines I currently own and each one does at least one thing better than most. I've had a couple that were just too sad to keep and I just gave those away, too embarrassed to ask for money for them.

Yeah.
I like to use a variety. I've now owned at least one of each of the major brands now. I am mostly a fan of both Garrett and Minelab detectors. I simply like the way they work. You are quite correct. Most good brands will find most of what each other will find. it's just a matter of preference of features or after a specific capability of a certain detector. Even the humble Ace 250 can be used to very good effect. On one of the Australian forums, an Aussie using an Ace250 picked up over $700 in 3 days! I loved the way you can pinpoint with the Ace it was simply brilliant! I consider it to be the best pinpointing detector that I've ever used. The Omega was pretty close to it though, but not as good as the ACE in my opinion.

Wow!! $700!! Sounds like Aussie Chris numbers, he used to rake it in!! I'm lucky If I get $.70 (70 cents) sometimes. It would help if the US would quit printing $1 bills and go with the $1 coin. They have tons of them that they don't even release for circulation. If they would just do away with the bill, we could up those coin totals on a good hunt..but alas...not!!!

It would make a lot of sense to pull the $1 bills from circulation. It would save a bucket load on the cost of replacements; especially give that notes have a very short life span. You need to re-educate joe public though. That is where the real problem is.
No it wasn't Aussie Chris. I haven't seen him post for a couple of years now. I guess I don't post much anymore myself. Not much to say.
I suspect that the person doing it was most likey heading into school grounds. I hope he sort permission though. Schools over here are closed to the public. You have to get permission from the school principal before you can detect in them. I've done it a few times in local schools but always ask. Glad I did because my presence there has been questioned on several occassions. You can find large sums there at times which is why some are tempted to jump fences. I know one chap who does that (haven't seen him for a long time). he finds plenty but it's only a matter of time before he finds himself explaining his actions to a judge. I'm aware of a couple of detectorist being prosecuted in the last few years.
I know of other detectorist that averages $20 an hour down around Sydney and on speaking to a Garrett/Minelab dealer in the Newcastle area (a 100 miles north of Sydney) who informed me that a number of his retired customers average $65 a day when they are in the mood for a hunt. I wonder why I might want to relocate back to the coast again.:detecting: Not going to happen in the near future though.
Mick Evans.

The US minted a boatload of dollar coins and then decided to cancel them when nobody would use them. Reason is, they didn't take the bills out of circulation. Educating the public is a lost cause, you just have to take away what you don't want them to use. When they came out, I was going to the bank and getting all I could and spending them on everyday purchases to get them into circulation. The clerks would just say " Cool!! I'm going to pull these and take them home and save them!!" No!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spend them, give them out in change, anything but hoard them. I even appealed to the guys on the forums to do the same thing...no response, too danged lazy to get a few $1 coins into circulation. So here we are, schlepping around digging up pennies instead of dollar coins. And don't even get me started on our worthless zinc pennies....jeeezzz!!!

Pitty you can't take their guns off them. Might save a lot of folks winding up dead. From where I'm standing, it's a bit of an oximoron to carry around a gun for protection. If folks didn't carry them then you wouldn't need them for protection. But that a qwhole other subject and I'm likely to upset a few.:nono:
