Got up early, read the Forums, saw that REVIER hit some sweetness with his 70....Thought, cool! I need some of that! Didnt have a plan, thought I'd stay close to home and hit the usual. Left the house at 7:05 am... I was hungry and not in a habit of doing this, I stopped at the local Burger King for breakfast...I got out of my car and there on the ground was a nice fresh Q! "This could be the sign of a great day!" I thought...I can splurge a little and get cheese on my croissantwich! I gassed up Rosie and hit the local school, it was still dark, the sun doesnt come up until 7:45ish now, and there was heavy frost and it was cold! Started out in the chip totter with not much clad success but did find this heavy silver piece 4.8gr!

Drove around the Lake 13miles hitting the usual totters and whatnot, not spending more than 10 minutes in them, nothing was gelling, my mind was in neutral, all the totters were pretty clean, had a few dimes and a few Q's...it was miserable cold and wet frozen grass, so I only hit totters...drove past my house at 8:45am and almost pulled back in to see what the Wife was doing...but I though about this one school place 15miles away, and decided to make the run out there. Glad I did!

First target in the chip totter was a fresh Q in an obvious place, thats a good sign, worked that totter for 15 minutes grabbing pennies and dimes, and then hit this ring underneath some gear, it sounded and felt right, and I could see it had some stamp, so I walked back over to Rosie to put on my cheaters for a better look...Couldnt really tell, so I thought, I wonder if I use my binoculars backwards they would act like a loupe? Sure enough!
'tiara 10k' it said! (2.9gr) I stood there for a minute and glanced over at the Football stadium across the road, its ALWAYS locked up tighter than Alcatraz, I've never been able to hunt it before, so I flipped the binocs around and slowly glassed the perimeter, over at the back, there was an OPEN gate![attachment 300946 oct1214-3.jpg]

So IN I went! Q's and coins galore! You couldnt complete a swing without all those Q's pinging! most were 4" deep, right in front of the concessions, I furiously highgraded only Q's, didnt waste no time on the N's or D's...got multiple stacks and spills! I was flat thirsty and wore out in no time, so I went over to some drinking fountains there, near the bathrooms, but they had been turned off, on a whim, i pushed on the bathroom door, figuring it would be locked, but it wasnt! So in there I went to refresh, take a squirt, wash up a bit, it was even heated! I thought, I could stay in here and take a nap if I was so inclined, make myself a little nest in the corner out of toilet paper and chill, then work this place for Old Glory! But I didnt, I went back out to the car and noticed it was close to 11:am, so I had best head for the house...we have a barn dance to go to this afternoon..:wiggle: Fast Food and Fast grabbin', it was a good day so far, maybe get me some cold beer and hot lovin this afternoon!:lmfao:. I've not done a coin count yet, they are in the tumbler, all except 6Q's and 2 D's were filthy...

Burgers and quarters, silver and gold...sounds like a great day to me!
2.9g beats my 1.3....the gauntlet has been thrown once again I see.
Very well.
This year I haven't really been super trying to find gold but 5 pieces showed up, anyway.
That has changed...stay tuned.

Well, I didnt leave them in the tumbler for very long..was curious, so heres the group shot!

120 coins for 24.61 clad, gold ring @45.00, the silver thing, 4.8gr, I dont know, didnt do the math...[attachment 300948 oct1214-4.jpg]

I dont like competing with you REVIER, 'cause you generally win! But it is helpful to me to see what you are up to, on account of I really try hard to duplicate what you are doing, and at least try to put in a decent effort just to have something to post! :beers: Had that gate been locked like usual, I'da had a decent day with the gold and silver, but still, I sure like hunting stinky heaps o'clad, especially those Q's!...I now wished I'da washed my coins out in that bathroom sink (or the urinal) and did a count there, the thought did cross my mind, because I knew I had a hell of a streak going, had I known the count, Ida stayed in there and got 100 of them...If I get a chance, I'll get back in there someday...but in the 3yrs watching this place, I've never seen the gate open, and on a Sunday morning no less! I know this sounds and looks unbelievable, I cant hardly believe it myself, but with the F70 set up on 'quick broom" mode, and fast with a screwdriver, this is what a guy can do in the right place at the right time...52 sens, -3 thresh, 4disc, DP tones, 11"dd

ps: I guess I had a 95 Q day counting the one I found and spent at the Burger King for the cheese slice on my sausage croissantwich!..

Nice going on the coins, silver thingy and gold ring. I'm glad you detect where I do. You don' leave much.

I left plenty there Tab...thinking back on it, I was passing on the deeper ones, when a guy is getting multiple Q hits per swing, a fellow has to just pick out the shallower targets, stomp down hard on the deeper ones to sort of flatten the grass and make the signal crisp, get them easy and fast if possible, or move on...I figure they resodded in front of the concessions where I was hunting a small strip of grass about 30' wide by 100' long..the soil was clay with some chert amalgam mixed in, soil moisture content was perfect, too dry and it woulda been like concrete, it was just right for stabbin'..the chert can fool a guy, so he has to relax and hop coil to narrow down the signature into a golfball sized target profile, and stab...deep grass and sod, no way a guy could dig here, woulda left a hell of a noticeable mess, and it woulda taken forever...notice I only got one nickel? and that one came out of one of the totters...there were plenty of them here, and D's..so I was flying coil, stooping and stabbin' only Q pings like a madman...didnt even ground balance...ping to pouch and move!

One of these fine days I hope me and you find ourselves at the same place at the same time, I would really enjoy watching you work...:beers:

My, my goodness. That is one quarter stabbing hunt. Never heard of recovering 94 quarters in one hunt. As far as I am concerned thats a forum record. :clapping: And then to ad a piece of silver and a nice 10k gold ring is simply outstanding. Hot damn. :beers: You deserve all you get this afternoon. Hey Jim...'Wandering Yoda' had a 302 coin day with 145 Q's and 103 D's back on July 14th of this year....so this minor haul of mine was Nothing compared to that! (It may however be the most Q's in the shortest time, for even I will admit, I'm faster than a gosh darn lightening bolt with this 70!) (some of these Q's have a 2015 date on them, thats how gosh darn fast the 70 is!)

Kidding aside, y'all frequent members of this Forum know this is not a common daily event for me, just on some days everything lines up...its satisfying to put in the time and practice hard so when these days do occur, a fellow can flat sweep them up in a hurry..today a rare opportunity presented itself, and I had the gear and practice to make the best of it....I can only imagine if a fellow ever got into a coin heavy old place where every coin was silver or gold and they were all 3" deep!

I'm sure theres a few old boys still alive that got to experience those days..:puke:...oh well, tomorrows another day, and we all wake up and start again from zero!

Well, still a gosh darn great hunt. My hats of to Wandering Yoda for sure. His hunt was outstanding. HH jim tn

Nice haul ..... again !

I've had the odd $30 - $40 dollar day with Q's this year, but they have been hard to find. Got 3 days off after tomorrow, so the plan it to see what's in the ground at a few places I've been looking at over the last week.

Man o man, 25.00 in clad is crazy..beats my best one day total by quite a bit... sweet ring there mud... reminds me of the time i worked this little baseball field in one of the northern towns around here...cherry picked quarters and dimes...i couldnt figure out why no one had ever worked it before...it wasnt until my 3rd trip there that i saw the private no tresspassing sign on the scoreboard, oops... oh well , never went back again... congrats again....

Funny thing....Sunday went out in the damp cold morning to swing a bit..hit a yard and left after an hour with nothing but trash then hit local park and picked up a few coins and 1 die cast car. Was driving past the local high school as I have many times before wishing could get into the football field but it always locked except for this morning. Looked around and not soul anywhere so in I went. Since the field has a sprinkler system thought I would try a hill (30ft X 65ft) that has no watering system. Before even turning on the detector I found two quarters laying there. Thought to myself that this might be my lucky day! Let me tell you everytime I swung there was a coin! After digging so many coins I quit digging the nickles and pennies. I ended up pulling 96 quarters (1965 - 1989) 60 dimes (1965 - 1983) 39 pennies (1 a 1945 wheatie) and 15 nickles (1965 - 1986). funny none were older that 65 or newer that 1989. after 3 hours I finished the hill when it started raining so I left but vowed to keep checking the gate so I hopefully I can hit the other 3 hills! I guess we both had a lucky Sunday.

Hey Pappalittle.........I did the same thing you did, checked the dates on the Q's....and like your results, all of these were older drops, with a very few surface...only 2 were 2009...the rest were dated from 65 on up with the majority dates being State Quarters (49) from the 90's....the field I hunted was a newer stadium, gonna try to find the build date of the place to help me key in on the 'glory years' of clad droppage..

I do not think the place had ever been hunted, or all the older drops woulda been gone, and I also think a haul like you and I had is a once in a lifetime event at these locations since it does not appear much clad was being dropped at either place in the past few years...:sadwalk:..i'm still trying to figure it out...the coins I found were deep enough to have been there a while, underneath the roots, and discolored to the point of being Coinstar grade..

Congrats on your Massive haul, and thanks for posting your results of the dates..!
