Buffalo Nickle advice.

I left a couple buffalo nickles behind for my Nephew to find with his Whites Eagle II SL Spectrum and I doubt I will ever hear the end of it. To top that off he found the only IH (1900) on the site so far in part of a plug that had been dug out previously.. weather by him or me we do not know. That II SL is a nickle magnet as I had found many shield and buffs with it when I owned it that others had missed just like this. Don't get me wrong I find them but they are one target I do not do as well with on the EX II when they are amongst the trash. Any advise on improving my Nickle finds?
That E tracs ratchet pinpointing would help discern them from all the low in this area...I'm thinking about it.

that ratched PP has been helping me a lot. I really like it. I can say us e-trac users are learning some neat little tricks with this detector. I have pulled some really deep nickels with it. These nickels read 12 inches on the depth scale and let me tell you they were that deep at least or more. The places iv hunted have had fill dirt put in over the years so that has to be why they were that deep. Now that iv got the deep nickels down im going to focus on the deep dimes. They have to be there if the nickels are. Good luck to you and if you ever get the e-trac you wont regret it. Just remember it isnt an EX II if you get it.

Rbholt, thanks for takin a miniute to repsond. Are useing the stock loop (coil) on the Etrac? Can you also hear (SEE) the size of an object with the pinpoint on the E? I really liked the XLT pinpointing ablility and miss it on my EX II. Good luck.

Yea there are 2 PP modes to choose from the one i use is the ratchet but you can select the other and it is for sizing the object. I haven't used it yet cause im still learning this thing. And yes im running all stock at this point. I may get a bigger and a smaller coil down the road but I have to wait for now. The ratchet works really good in the trash to get the targets separated. Sometimes I dig the wrong target with it but at least the trash is out of the way at that point

Hey Shovel -

Since I use the SE, I don't know if your EX II has the factory "coins" pattern or not, but if so, I have found that nickels will hit VERY consistently on the SmartFind screen, even near trash. I don't have my detector in front of me, but the area that nickels hit for me is approximately 1/8 to 1/4" above the bottom of the screen, and 1/4 to 3/8" right of the lower portion of the "coins" blacked-out pattern. Nine times out of ten a hit in this very small area is a nickel. Good luck in your hunting. Johnny

I found a whole load of information on finding nickles in dec or 08 on this forum if you are interested. For certian the air tests and reality are different I thought I was doing well and dont like to know I left somethng for others. But Im always getting better so look out! Thanks to the forum lots of good info.

I never found a lot of nickels with my Explorer II. When I bought the X Terra 70 I was finding them like never before. Now that I have the E Trac I am finding them easily again, not sure why but definitely a difference. I usually hunted in an all metal pattern with the Explorer, so they were not notched out either.

Deep Jefferson and Buffalo, V and Shield come in lower than the average depth Jefferson and this should be considered and you may be basing where an Explorer will hit screen wise on a regular Jefferson..All in all an Explorer is a silver magnet and thats where it excells and this should be taken into consideration also..As far as pinpointing VCO pinpointing excells but double D coils with practice do pinpoint well...all a matter of getting used to...
