Buddhist subway token?

I'm trying through snail-mail to help an elderly man identify a token
which has been in his family's possession for about 80 years. I have
only this photo; no other physical details as yet.

Any ideas?

The heart and wishbone are good luck symbols, as is Buddha. I would say this is a teens or 20's good luck token. The writing around the edge does not look like real writing, I would guess it was decorative.
