I cannot tell you how incredible the CTX 3030 is in Iron

Nails are no match for the voodoo ninja magic of the CTX. Congrats on an awesome find.

Beautiful buckle, congratulations.

Excellent find! And great report on how it came to be. I agree with much of what you said, regarding settings and how the CTX 3030 operates. One thing you said that I don't think can be stressed too much is

I am learning how to use this machine, so I slow down, and let the machine do the math. Had to go to Auto Neutral to cut the chatter a bit.

Congrats! HH Randy

What a sweet buckle - congrats (don't forget to get the honey out of that tree as well!):lmfao:

I'm west of DFW also, love those old homesites. I usually wind up digging everything, because you just never know what your gonna uncover.
Congrats on the buckle.

Very fine find especially in Texas..
I was fortunate enough to find a Union Buckle last fall, also west of DFW...
Congrats and look forward to see what else you pull from your site..

I have a friend who has found 2 Sword Belt Plate Buckles within the last year, at old homesites. If you think about it, men on both sides of the Civil War went home after the war, and many took their buckles and belts along with them. IF you hunt old homesites from the 1870's and after, it stands to reason you will find some of them. In the past few months, i have found a Carbine Buckle, a Heart Buckle, and now the Sword Belt Plate Buckle.

Don't get me wrong, it is the first one I have found in 39 years of detecting, but I have been detecting primarily in non-battle states almost exclusively.

But I agree, for Texas, it is a fine find, compared to what is produced East of the Mississippi.....I think the buckle predates the house I found it in, and my current theory is that a cowboy camped out under the trees back in the day, and lost it, or left it. Where I found it is on a small knoll, and between four 150 year old trees. So, I think it likely that was what occurred.
