Buckle Found! Need help on this one?

Found in one of my hunt sites that has produced many bullets and some buttons. This is a little known site where both the Confederates and the Union have camped out. There was also a skirmish at this site. I have never seen this buckle before in any books or publications. Have any ideas on this one?
 
That's an awesome find. Does it have any type of hooks or attachements on the back? I'm assuming that's a C S? Is it brass?
 
It's made of brass - badly oxidized - our ground has some high mineral content to it. Looks like the hook has broken off of it, and it is has a pretty bad bend in it. Fairly small in size - looks almost like it could be for a strap of some kind.
