Bryce have you read the Sov page about the Sov and SE being dumped by ML? I heard it earlier in the year when they came out with the CTX..... seems now we are getting a date of Dec 31. Sad sad day if its true. I can tell you one thing..... both machines will always be desired unless someone changes the tech.

I just can not see Minelab dumping 2 of there top of the line machines and not replacing them with at least a new updated machine to replace those 2 ? what worries,s me is should my 4 year old GT ever break down will Minelab still fix it even if it is out of warranty after it has been discontinued at my own cost ? Just asking Jim

Dew, you might want to post your message in the Explorer forum. I don't think Bryce cruises this one too much as he's a busy man. I'm sure you probably thought you were posting in that forum by mistake. Can you imagine the PMs Bryce is getting right now? That's why I'd ask in the open forum so others can chime in, because I'm sure he has his hands full trying to respond to PMs...

ROFL...... yep i posted this in the wrong forum....... serious brain f*art sorry guys. I dont see a problem for several years with parts and repairs..... they just recently said they might not be able to repair the XS..... that machines been out there for some time. So now..... what your choice going to be for a beach back up guys??

Jim you could probably find out by contacting minelab directly. First Texas still works on the early CZs so maybe minelab has this planned also.

I wish Minelab the greatest success with their current line of detectors.Minelab makes great equipment the GT and SE have been and continue to be a benchmark for performance and quality. Thanks Ron

Dew...it's a sad day in Mudville if it's true...BUT I already have 2 used SE's and one still new in the box...so I'm all set.

I also have two EX2's...an E-Trac...and a gazillion coils.:)

Like Ron...I wish Minelab continued success with their new line of detectors...and just like the faithful following that the Fisher CZ's still have after many years...the same cult following will be there for the Explorers and Sov. for years to come.

The proof is in the puddin' as they say.

All one needs to do is glance on this very forum and see the wonderful finds people make with this machine on a daily basis.

Don't be surprised if in a few years they bring the Explorer back and Christen it " The Explorer Classic III " and ask for your first born male child as a down payment .

People are just impatient now days they have so little time between TV, computers, Ipods, and texting they want a detector that has NO learing curve YET they expect it to find targets that were missed by much better hunters for years. Well...... what do you think about some of the NEW machines at the current prices? This is the future. We want all the do dads...... Well i will always make my choice based on performance not friels. I dont mind people saying ..... what you still using that old Exp as they pull the pretty new machine out of the bag. At the end of the day..... its performance. Until new tech worth the money hits the street ..... i think ill be just fine picking up the left overs and leaving them scratching their heads as to why their new machine got left in the dust that day.

That Yes Minelab will delete this machine ( SE PRO) and SOV GT from their lineup... It's just a normal process of business and continued success.Expected from a top rank company. No matter what the product.

In one way or another the Explorer Type detector ( Multi Frequency) has been around since the early 1990's I Think.. Seems like it.

First the 17 frequency..... next 28 frequency ............. Underwater Excal a couple models etc etc.. Metered version with the XS...Explorer II......... on and on. A couple version of the SE model plus Minelab it's self has been sold and moved.

To remain successful a company "MUST" move forward and produce what is perceived to be better products, plus competitive products to remain in business that makes a profit...

It has to be !! We may not like all products a company makes, we just hope there is a line we like, use with fantastic results and is affordable to each of us. Hence different models and price points.

Will minelab develop a new Type machine using Explorer technology.. Maybe.... Will they trend towards their new CTX upgraded design. With the Explorer type Multi frequencies....... Again Maybe...... Will they develop new technology that is even better than they now have.. Wow.I sure hope so..............

Many of us do not like change .......... we get comfortable in a certain niche and use what we like to the best of our abilities. Others of us grasp change and love the out come........ Will a Company always hit the mark on their new releases.. " Nope"... Will all of us grasp the new and utilize it. Again "Nope" ... We have to change too...

I do think that if nothing new were released by a company that company would not be long for staying in business in a particular field.. In Our case "Metal Detecting Equipment"........... Let's embrace the change..pick the new equipment we like................ Do our best to preserve the older models we now have for our usage and accept as time goes by that model will no longer be available as a new purchase product..

Let's all try to move forward.Enjoy the Hobby. Grasp change. Learn the new equipment and have even better finds................ Or use what you have..be happy, and hope it is fixable if something goes wrong.. There is no right or wrong in what you like.......... It's what makes the world go around ..........

Afraid you are going to lose one in the park Bryce? :lmfao:

I think it's just the way normal business goes in today's world. The explorer and sovereign are proven machines and will stand the test of time like some of the other discontinued brand models over the years. Their should be a plentiful market for used ones for years to come.

I second that ...

I will save up for another SE before I buy anything else.

GREAT , I finally went out on a limb and get an se pro cuz my xs is no.longer serviceable ...Then they discontinue the model favored by many detectorists worldwide.. MINELAB sure makes a nice product.. but their new pricing scheme is just nuts.. If the explorer series is gone , its time for me to go back to Whites , where they service pretty much everything they ever sold.. and affordable.. We will see , but for right now I am disappointed in this decision. And I will not pay two grand for a detector that performs no better than a standard explorer ..

I am kind of in the same boat but at least we have until december 31 and they would also have to honor the warranty for 3 years.

Good point. So I assume if a person were to buy one the end of December; he or she would get a full 3 year warranty which should mean we will be able to at least get service and parts on used ones for that same time frame?
