Browning 3rd lung

scubadetector

New member
Greetings all,

First I just want to than everyone for their helpful tips on this forum. Great learning experiences here. Second, I just bought a Browning 3rd lung off eBay with 100' of down-line, 2 regulators, and a hose reel. Nobody was bidding on it so I picked it up for 330.00. Two questions,

Does anybody know if quick disconnects are available so I can use only one reg if I want and take off the "Y" splitter?

It did not come with a float tube. I have 2 tubes that I pulled my kids in when they were younger behind my boat. Are they big enough and what would I use to mount it to?

I was thinking of getting a piece of marine plywood and cutting it in a circle. Then turning the float tube upside down and putting holes in the nylon covering to mount the plywood. Then mount the hookah on it.

I have never seen a hookah tube and just need suggestions. I thought about mounting the thing in my boat but I want to be able to hit the smaller lakes in Mi without pulling that monster around.

Any help or pictures of a top of a float tube with the hookah on it would be helpful. My local dive shop is checking out my hookah. It has a 4hp Honda engine and it seems to work great.

Keene Engineering or even Brownie. And...if I were you, I'd just contact Brownie and order the tube, which as two bladder sections, and a cover.

Yes, the "Y" connector can be dispensed with. Just call Brownie for the proper connection.

Thank you. I will contact them. I was looking for a quick disconnect so I could put the "Y" in only when I wanted to dive with a partner.

I noticed that if I wanted to buy just the tube and covering for the tube that it was a whoppin' 300 bucks plus--if I read it right. This is on Brownie's website.

Another idea on the mounting plate is to have it fabricated at a machine shop out of stainless. I would personally stay away from wood because I don't think it would hold up well and it would tend to chaffe the tube unless it was constructed carefully.

The Keene Engineering catelog shows the mounting plate as a separate item. You can get online and get them to send you a catalog or you can see it online. If I remember right--just not sure--it was right around a hundred bucks.

keeneengineering.com is your ticket.

I know you'll get it up and running soon. Best-o-luck.

Thank you. I did contact Brownie (I thought it was Browning!!) yesterday. I looked at their website and it stated the 1006 catalog was now ready. I thought they were out of business!!

Anyway Stacy was VERY helpful and told me all about my new toy. She said the tupe for my unit was huge and they don't make it anymore. The quick disconnects will cost me 18.00 each after I send the hoses back to them.

I will look up your site information John and thank you for the lead.

But it will be idle for a season. Turkey season is in full swing. Bow hunting those devils takes priority over nearly everything in the springtime.

But I will get me a new wetsuit in a couple of weeks and turkey season will be gone and I will get down to some serious business again. Can't wait.

I have talked to Stacey a couple of times this weeek. She's really knowledgable about Brownie stuff! But, look upt the Brownie stuff online. I could SWEAR that I saw the tube and the fabric outer covering listed for somewhere a tad over $300.00.

Another consideration is buying one of those giant tubes kids use to pull themselves behing a boat. They are really big--and they cost a bunch. Finally, go to Walmart or Gander Mtn etc and look for single man inflatable boats made of heavy canvas-like material and see if you can make that work. At Walmart they are like $30.00.

Not knowing what kind of weight your unit is will be critical. Also, if you are planning on getting in the salt-water surf the stability thang is a huge consideration. I don't have that worry meself, being in Arkansas and doin' only the freshwater gigs.

You'll get it all together. Be patient and don't take shortcuts when you life is on the line (literally) <><

I think I have it. I do have two tubes you pull behind a boat. My children are grown and they are just gathering dust. I am going to make one work somehow! I want to play and play hard. Thanks and I personally think putting water hunting off to turkey shoot is not a good idea. I don't hunt as I don't like to kill things and finding gold and silver is much more rewarding anyway!!

Good luck on hunting! I would never put a hunter down. I love to eat wild amimals just as much as the next person but I just can't shoot them!!

As for the hunting, well, to each their own. With a bow I will never decimate the population but I will have fun trying.

Hunting...you wouldn't understand--it's a culture thang. Always have--always will. // But we DO have diving in common. You should be able to get that hookah in the water in no time, especially if you can bend metal or have a machine shop nearby. You might try the local Technical College and have them make you a heavy-duty oversized pie plate. Students LOVE to do stuff like that and you just furnish the mateials and guidance.

I'd like to see a photo of your final results. Don't forget the 40 micron inline filter, if, by chance, the hookah doesn't have one.
