Brown Spots

Star and I hit a couple local parks this weekend. Round brown spots in each one. Please do not dig in dry public areas.

That's so sad. Specially in parks where everyone can see the damage that has been done. We didn't go to the park where you're talking about, so don't know how long they've been brown. My guess it is a person that doesn't know when NOT to detect. We're pretty lucky with club members with our "preaching" to each other. Thanks for the eye opener. We need to teach as many possible the right way and when to detect HH, Nancy

I'm not saying anyone from the club did this, but I did hear the comment from several members that the grass is already brown so it doesn't make any difference if we dig or not. I disagree with that thinking. The brown spots I am seeing now were most likely dug when the grass was brown/dormant. This rain quickly greened the grass back up but the plugs stayed brown. Just my opinion.

Yes, I knew that Daryl. We totally agree with the "dormant" grass. It's sad that you saw it and now we're glad you brought it to every one's attention. Be thankful we got a lot of rain the past few days, hopefully that will help in the healing process.

Speaking of healing. How's that hand of yours?

HH,
Nancy

Are we still talking about the underwear the guys found at Glen Oak????

I agree with you all about the dead grass. I have stuck to the woods or places where people don't care about the grass. We got 5 inches, in 8 days, and the ground is soaking it up pretty fast. But the more we get now, the better conditions will be. I think it will take a very wet fall or an awful lot of snow this winter to return the moisture level to where it needs to be. I'm hoping for the wet fall.

I wonder if they were tapered plugs. We got 2" of rain in 2 1/2 days.

On Labor Day a local sporting goods store had a metal detector treasure hunt for the family with items under wood chips in the store for the kids to find. How many kids now have $50 detectors and big shovels heading for our parks? Be aware and have club info and the Treasure Hunters Code of Ethics to pass out to the parents if you encounter these.

Hey I thought maybe tiny UFOS landed and we weren't informed about them. What were they thinking leaving all those little round brown spots. Don't they know you can get in trouble for that. Boy did they ever stick out like a sore thumb with all that green grass around them. It sure was nice to get out and do some detecting in an area that is easier to walk through.
