i live in a very old neighborhood.i used to have train tracks in my back yard til 2003 they removed them.have found many 1800's coins and 1 1789 coin in the area (neighbors yards).this past week i have been hunting next door and have been doing very well,silver,1910 and 1919 wheat cents plus alot more, but i found this metal for the brotherhood of railroad trainmen columbus, ohio dated may 1st 1909.its 2 metals hooked together and has a big 929 in the middle.. check it out and if anyone can tell me anything about it that would make my day..thanks alot

WOW! All I can say is, WOW! Larry's dad use to work the railroads. Maybe he might know something. WOW..........again. Nice find! Nancy

May, 1909 would have been the 145 anniversary of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and the medal is commemorating the convention of that year. The 929 is probably the lodge # for the Cincinnati, OH branch.

Did not find anything specific about your medal but check this link.

The following is a reference to the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen convention in Columbus Ohio in May 1909. Cannot find anything specific about your pin/medal. It may be valuable to a railroad memorabilia collector.

thanks alot for the info!! the MXT dont leave much in the ground! the neighbors yard is just full of goodies and im sure i will spend alot of time there over the next couple weeks.. finds like this is why i am so addicted to this hobby. have a wonderful night

You are more than welcome and CONGRATULATIONS for finding that great railroad medal. You are right, the MXT is a truly great detector. Once the MXT language is learned, the MXT is like the gift that keeps on giving. Hope you are a member of a detecting club so you can show off your good finds.

im not a member of a club, been a little scared of joining a club. heard alot of stories some good alot bad and wasnt sure if it was for me.i do like this forum along with a couple others.alot of wonderful people on here. it would be very nice to hunt with others and learn from them and maybe help others enjoy the hobby.my son-n-law is really getting addicted thanks to me..lol that was main reason i sold my XLT and bought another MXT so he would have a machine that wasnt too complicated. and i found another DX-1 from richard on this forum so he is set to go! i started with a whites in the 1970's, then didnt do much until 2002 or so. now back with whites..cant ask for anything better. i will get my last few outings finds gathered up with some pics in the next day or so.

I only have experience with one club. Meeting with people that truly enjoy and understand the hobby has been a lot of fun. Club members understand how much effort goes in to finding all the junk, and good stuff, we accumulate. If you have a question, these guys and gals are right there to help. I do not know of any metal detecting club that charges guests that visit even at multiple meetings.

Following is a list of 7 clubs in Ohio and you may find more if you run a Google search. If some are near you, give them a visit. I bet you will like what you see.
