Bronze crimp cap opener Information?

Gopher John

New member
Can anyone tell me anything about this bronze bottle cap opener?
It was found on a permission city site about 4" deep and the lot is dated back into the mid 1800's.
Thanks Gopher John

Does it have anything on the back??
makers mark or patent number??
I cant quite make out the image.. looks maybe Incan image

It has no markings on its back side.
The casting back side is irregular like it had cooled before leveling from gravity had fully taken place.
It looks Incan or Aztec in design but searching the web did not return any information.
Thanks HuntinDog

Thank you Woodstock.
When you say old, do you have any idea of how old?

I did a little searching and it seems to be the Inca god Viracocha. A couple of the sites indicated they were Peruvian souvenirs. It can't be pre-1900 because the crown closure (that the opener was designed for, while patented in 1892 wasn't popular until after about 1905-1910. It likely dates to the mid 20th century but that is a bit of a guess

Just my 2c

Best Wishes and Nice Find

Thank you Taxidea. I appreciate your 2 cents.

That age is hard to say ... you can still buy crimp top bottle openers today , and even at a local Peruvian gift shop today ... screwcaps have been here for maybe 40 years as (popular) maybe longer . But if it was from 1910 or the 20's or 30's it would be either greener or bluer from oxidation ... I'd say it was on a keychain at some point and not more than 40 to 50 years old ... maybe newer like 30 . IMHO , Woodstock
