Broken plastic bolt for coil

wtwtw

New member
If you have a broken plastic bolt where your coil attaches to the rod you can use a nylon bolt and nylon nut used to anchor a toilet to the floor. They come in sets of two so you would have a spare. Sorry no picture but they work great

Hi wtwtw,

Correction!!! As a plumbing repairman with over 38 years experience I would suggest using bolts made for the toilet seat hinges. (They are the ones you describe and I use them for my coils!)

Plastic bolts are never used to hold a toilet to the floor!

Sorry, I had to butt:bouncy: in!

True.... but even those are too large for Minelab unless you drill the hole larger (not recommended) Great for Garrett & possible others though

I hate to tell you that you are WRONG. I am a state certified master plumber in Florida and you can and we do use plastic (NYLON) toilet bolts to bolt the toilet to the floor. We also use plastic flanges. The plastic bolts are much stronger than the toilet seat bolts. I have seen many toilet seats with broken bolts but I have never seen a plastic toilet flange bolt broken. The plastic bolts do not corrode so it makes them easier to remove later ( no cutting them off like the brass bolts) The next time you are in the supply house ask about plastic flange bolts. You may want to try them they will make a believer out of you.

erikk I think the plastic toilet flange bolts will work for your minelab. They are smaller in diameter than the seat bolts. If you want to try a set e-mail me and I"ll send you a set. You also Cupajo if you want to see a set e-mail me. Have a nice day

I stand corrected wtwtw!!

After over thirty eight years of bolting toilets to metal flanges with brass bolts I have come to prefer that method. These metal flanges are either brass or stainless and neither the flanges nor the bolts have ever caused me any grief as long as they were installed correctly.

As for using the above mentioned bolts for coils I say they sound like the way to go!

Thanks for your info,

CJ

Great to know. Since I have many rentals I do have to remove my share of toilets I will certainly look into the nylon bolts :)

Just started using these, not cheap..got to buy several and about 8 dollars each.

The toilet flange bolts are about $1.50 each unless you buy bulk like me @$.69 each set of two

I have never broken one either but I did buy an Ace 250 and when it showed up the coil bolt was broken so I used one just like the picture above to replace it. Thank you for the picture as I do not know how to up load them.

I hate to tell you all this,BUT when I use the john I can't tell if it is held down by plastic, nylon,or metal screws---what's a crapper to do????
