Broken Gold Bug 2

New member
Just bought a brand new Gold Bug 2. And guess what. Runs smooth as hell. Switch's to high mineralization. Dead,

It wont make a sound in that mode. Ive flipped all switches around turned all the knobs around. But not a sound in high mineralization mode.

If there is a quickfix or something I dont know please tell me right away. Or else I'll just send it back..But im kind of pissed. payed over 1500 bucks for it. And will probably wait for a new one for WEEKS.

Tried with both coils, Nothing.
Tried batteries, No problem.
Tried ALL kind of different settings but when that little shit switch flips to HM, sound just dies. Not even if i turn treshold to maximum.
And yes i own a couple of other metal detectors. And have been modding some tesoros myself so i know some stuff..,
I think the switch is broken, due to the other modes runs great.

The switch works perfect in normal and low. Its like it wont click in properly in high. if i pull the switch very very hard to the right and pushes it up, it bleeps and goes.

SHOULD THE GOLD BUG 2 BLEEP WHEN YOU GO FROM NORMAL TO HIGH MINERALIZATION?

Really? $1500.00. It must be gold plated and the gold is interfering with it some how. But that's just a guess.

Why $1500 dollars? That price seems awfully high even if it shipped overseas.

Why in THE WORLD would you pay $1500 for a GB2???-----As far as the switch goes---you may have to send it in to FT for repair.-----Call them first & describe what it is doing to see if they have any ideas what you can do or if they advise you to send it in.

One dealer's web page lists them at $764. You should get two for $1500. I understand the manufacturers control the prices dealers can openly list new machines. You could get an even better price calling one of the forum sponsoring dealers.
Del is right on about calling FT. If they can't help over the phone, you will need an RA number. Be sure to include a brief note on the nature of the problem in the box.

I would ask this question the prospecting forum. You'll get some answers from people that acutally use the Gold Bug II on a regular basis.

Sounds like you are in Europe maybe. Two suggestions.

If it's new, you are covered by warranty bit if you didn't biy it through the local authorized distribution chain, you would probably have toreturn it to El Paso for service, call first.

If it's a second hand machine, Call First Texas and ask for repair. Explain your problem. If iT is a bad switch, and yiu are outside the US, they might make an exception to their policy of not selling repair parts. Even if not, it's got to be a standard item and I'll bet they would give yiu the part number so you could source one online.

The easisest thing is ignore, the problem. Nobodynuses that switch position for prospecting, it kills all depth. In fact most people always use the low mineral, position since it is the most sensitive.

well i found the problem. when i press the cabel connector on the backside upwards it works. i will return the product for a new. thank you all anyways

Radio Shack Model: 275-664 | Catalog #: 275-664

Used this switch for both three way switches on the GB2
