Broken Coil Screw

tink

New member
Went to the park yesterday after a weekend antique show. Was all pumped about using the new Golden Plus to cherry pick jewelry and coins. About 5 minutes into the hunt I noticed the coil kind of flopping around. Here the plastic screw holding the coil to the shaft broke. After 15 or so year old you can't complain. I was wondering if anyone has had this happen and where I could get a substitute until I can get a couple from Tesoro. Going to try Home Depot but not sure they carry plastic screw this size. Thanks for the help.

BTW, ended using my XLT for 6 hours. 52 coins but were my arms and wrist sore from swinging and PPing that long.

Why don't just call a Tesoro dealer and get yourself together a breakable/loosable spare parts kit. Super cheap insurance :bouncy::bouncy::bouncy:

I have used the srew and nut that you get with toilet seats, you can get at any hardware store. Some coils they fit great and others I have had to drill out the coil ears and the hole in the lower rod a bit. Steve.

Thanks guys, I went to HD a while ago and they had Nylon 1/4" x 1-1/2" bolts that the old wing nut fit. Worked like a charm.

SkiWiz: I thought about trying getting one I had in my work shop. I know I am going to keep this machine, but really don't want to drill the holes out to 3/8".

SilverSmith: Didn't even know they carried them. Thanks for the suggestion and I think I will do that. This is my first Tesoro and I am already planning to get another one soon like a cibola etc.

I just seen on another forum someone else asking about a new coil bolt. He asked if he could use a steel one. Now I know some brands use them on newer machines. Has anyone ever heard of anyone using one and would it indeed mack or cause bad effects on the machine?

This has been debated before and in my opinion it doesn't matter if it is nylon or steel. I have had many different Tesoro's some with nylon and some with steel coil bolts & didn't find a difference. As long as the nut is tight on the bolt and can't wiggle, it moves with the coil and is not detected. I have a Troy Shadow X2 that I have been using (made by Tesoro, basically a souped up Silver Sabre uMax and my X2 has had an adjustable ground balance added 3 and 3/4 turn pot. same as Tesoro uses) with a steel coil bolt & it works great. Actually I have the X2 up for sale if anyone is interested. Steve.
