Was replacing the rubber o-ring on my shaft to hold the coil in place and SNAP one of the tabs broke off clean from the coil. Can this be glued with super glue or what would you recomend. Thanks PLEASE SAY IT CAN BE FIXED. Roger

Hi your in a pickle. unfortunately we all can be alittle rough on thease search coils. go to your local home center like Homedepot,Lowes,ect... they should have some two part Epoxy. makesure it says GOOD FOR PLASTICS some Epoxy dries rock hard others stay flexable that is what you want. Taks a pice of 100 grit sandpaper and rough up both pices then clean the area of all dust from sanding with alittle rubbing alchol. Mix the epoxy on a seprate pice of clean scrap of plastic or old floor tile (not a paper plate or cardboard the epoxy sometimes tends to lift some paper and mix it in the epoxy)then using a small stiff brush like a acid brush or a ice cream stick spread it on both pices then put it into place. let it sit for the recomended drying time as per the epoxy instructions. you may want to mix another batch and apply a second thin coat over it once the epoxy hardens but still is tacky to the tutch. then let dry again at room tempature. you may also find a coil support that goes from the shaft to the coil as added support they make them and it will help. good luck. I doubt glue will hold Roger. The coil tabs are a high stress area. If this is on your new detector it will be replaced free. On your older one, I would suggest getting a used replacement coil on one of the Wanted/For Sale Forums or Ebay. If you do try to Epoxy the tab on, build a fillet or wedge up on the outside of the tab, make sure the tab and coil is VERY clean and use 60 grit sandpaper to create a rough surface for the epoxy to have something to bite onto. Good luck.

finally bought me some new rubber washers for the coil and when replacing them snap. I think I will just try glue and see what happens.
its just the back up to the back up DFX--XLT--clasisc IDX

I don't know anything about the technology or how strong it is, but have heard of plastic fenders being welded back on 4 wheelers. They use some type of hot air gun with plastic filler rods. Might pay to check with local 4 wheeler shop and see about it.

I think epoxy would work per the replys below, but you might want to position the rod in place before gluing the broken part down. You want to make sure the distance between the two tabs is the same as the original distance and not less. Otherwise, when you go to insert the rod, you could break the glue bond. I have had good luck fixing tools with epoxy and also with Gorilla Glue. The tabs are a high stress area, but the epoxy with the coil support should work. Ron

The best epoxy I have used is called double bubble its a two part epoxy and holds good. We use it at work to make quick repairs while waiting on parts. Google search it and it should come up, cant find it message me and I can help you.
