Broken Coil Ear on Brand new racer!

Hi all.

Went out on my first ever hunt with my brand new Makro racer detector yesterday, in a clean flat farmers field that I have permission on.

Within 30=60 mins, a coil ear completely snapped off, leaving me Gutted, especially as I know I didn't abuse it as i'm a reasonably experienced user, having previously owned the Garrett Ace 250 and the Garrett Euroace.

I sent the folloing letter, with pics of the damaged part plus the serial number to an address suggested in this forum...begins with cavet, or something like that.

I bought it brand new off Ebay.

Now, the question is this....if it was you, would you:

A: Get a refund via Paypal from the seller
or
B Wait for Makros customer support to get in touch to send me a new coil??

Any help and info you can give me will be very much appreciated.

Thanks Kind Regards
Matt.

I have a Racer with the so called thin ears. Not knowing if they are of the good plastic or bad. Have not had any problem with the coil ears but I have broken two factory bolts having to tighten so much to keep the coil from flopping. Called the service center and have a couple of bolts on the way. I do have a question Matt. With the newer coil, do you feel that you need to tighten the bolt to some extreme to keep coil in place? Thanks, Chuck

No, just a gentle turn of the coil bolt and it holds perfectly,

matt.

I wouldnt do a claim on paypal i would contact Makro and get a new coil

I would recommend option B since it's not really the sellers fault that the coil ear broke. This is a know problem and Makro should send you a new coil.

I had the same thing happen with my 5.5x10 coil. I only had 4 or 5 hours of use on it. I contacted Detector Electronics Corp. (508-460-6244). They are the U.S. distributor, and handle the warranty claims. They had me return the coil, and now a new one is on its way. The only problem is that it is coming from Turkey to Detector Electronics Corp., and then from Detector Electronics Corp. to me. So it will probably be another two weeks before I get the new coil. Luckily I have other detectors that I can use in the meantime.

Thanks for replies guys.
Contacted Makro and they said they will immediately ship me out a new coil.

EXCELLENT!!!!

If the detector is working like it should then get the coil replaced the larger coil is very good also but maybe a tad big for iron

I'm a VERY happy chappy.
New coil arrived today....and to my surprise, it came fitted with a MUCH better coil cover than standard.

Took Makro less than 3 days to get the coil from turkey to my door.

Hand on heart, dealing with the Makro customer services guy was an honour.

I can honestly say it's easily the best customer service i've ever had.
Totally professional, polite, extremely helpful etc etc.

To say i'm happy is a huge understatement. I'm SUPER happy.

Thanks,. Makro, for the perfect 10/10 service.

Matt.

Glad to see ya got her worked out staffy

Gosh thats nasty. .. My coil bolt snapped too. I have never had coil bolts break on any detector in years of using dozens of machines.. A bad plastic mix or some thing...who knows..

Coil bolt didnt break, and coil is complately unmarked and works perfect...just the plastic ears broke.

I was thinking is it possible somehow to put the ears back on, as I still have them.

May keep it as a spare coil.

Then again, might try my luck and put it on Gumtree for £25

Unless anyone here wants ? then the price to you lot would be £10.00 + postage.
