Broke into the 1700's in Ohio

Got out with a good friend last Monday after work. We went to an area we had hunted a few years ago and were hoping there would be a few more goodies for us. There wern't many targets. I found two clad quarters and Bill scored a Merc. As we were getting ready to call it a day I remembered a small area that had a lot of small iron signals. We went to it and started hunting real slow. The first target I found with my SE was a bell. A few feet from the bell I came across a target giving an identical signal.probably another bell. I was shocked to see a Cartwheel. After getting home and cleaning it up a little I realized I was right. It is a 1797 King George III two pence. Thanks for looking.

Nice Find Howard! I believe that the '97 two pence was the largest copper coin the Brits ever made. The idea was to thwart counterfeiters by making the copper melt value of the coin equal to its face value.

Congrats!
