Bringing Jewelry Back Into the Country

I just read the story about the successful water hunter in Dubai. I see people hunting in Spain, Greece, and Mexico. How do you bring your found treasures into the country? Do you have to declare at customs and pay import fees?

You know that's a darn good question and I didn't even think of that when I read that story. I do not know for sure but I bet you they tag you for something when you show them all the loot you got.

Even in this country any find over $20 in value must be declared to authorities. At least it is clearly stated in my Detecting Permit.

Regarding customs, again according to customs laws, valuables that you PURCHASED abroad must be declared. PURCHASED, not found in the street or in the sand of the beach. At least it is stated in customs declaration that I fill in three-four times a year. Also, without expertise you cannot say for sure if it is gold or not. Without expertise it is only a "metal of yellow color". Hallmarks (not in karats by the way) mean nothing. 90% of hallmarks in Syria for instance is fake (from personal experience).

My two shekels.

I've moved a lot of my loot back to my safety deposit box in Canada. Did this Pirate declare it? What kind of pirate do you think I am? Part of the excitement is getting the loot safely home.

Cheers,

the easy answer is, if you can wear it just put it on and walk on by...how do they know what you wore into the country..

Imagine coming from Dubai and wearing a couple 22 carat rings on one hand and a 5K bracelet on the other and 10K of chains hanging off your neck and the total value of your clothes is $43 dollars, heehee.

If Mr. T can do it then why not ....hahaha

That's true!

Just stash your loot in your luggage and wear the good stuff. At $12/hr the people handling security are no rocket scientists.(kinda makes you feel secure knowing that they caught all the terrorists trying to get on the plane)
