Bring back the Golden umax !

I had one, and it was fun. But it wasn't very deep. I retraced my steps with a Cortes and found a layer of coins that the Golden couldn't reach.

If it's tones you want, I'd rather see that feature added to a machine with some depth (like the Cortes!). The sum mode was a start, but the spring loaded switch kept it from being useful (to me).

Change out that switch, give it GB in disc, and slap the Cazador sticker on the side! :clapping:

I assume that the Golden umax was a good machine but why would folks like to bring back a old machine ??? not sure if this was the model that had the software codes lost i am not sure about that, but i doubt that they would ever bring back into product that detector, they are having some what a problem bringing out a totally new machine, cannot thing what the name of it was as its been so long.

Of course i could be wrong about the software problem i am aware that it was one machine and almost certain it was the Golden model, someone will put me right on that one.

I hear you, we are all waiting on the Cazador. As for the Golden, your right it's not a deep detector at all but it is awesome in trashy parks.

Meagan B, have you seen the video that 53 silver did on the Golden ? if not check it out on you tube . That's why id like to see it make a come back .

I had two of the early releases and tried the latter one. Detector depth wasn't impressive, especially on some mineralized beach sand at Lake Havasu, AZ. I am not into the 'more depth' craze, but I do expect certain performance for the dollar invested, and I had a Bandido II µMAX, Silver Sabre µMAX, and Eldorado µMAX that easily produced better depth on the same targets, and that's only mentioning the Tesoro models that outshined it.

Also, the Notch system wasn't very reliable when changing from mild ground to more moderate to very mineralized ground. Often, a target, like a dime or penny or nickel, would respond with a lower audio tone than what it should have been. I tried to like the Golden µMAX, but I hunt in too many highly mineralized sites and I felt it was inconsistent, weak responding, and just not very impressive for the dollar asked.

So don't try to revitalize an outdated detector that didn't prove to perform well all around in the first place. Instead, concentrate on R&D with set goals of what is desired by the consumers as a whole, not just a more-or-less 'specialty' item. Work on what is within the company development and marketing budget that would appeal to the masses.

I'm glad that I have a Golden µMax. It has found enough gold rings to more than pay for itself. When it's set up with minimum discrimination and with the notch switch in the off position, it's as deep as my Outlaw, and Bandido II µMax. Keep in mind that I have very mild soil to detect in and its internal ground balance is set for my soil.

Use what works for you, opinions are a dime a dozen. I would not get rid of mine, it used for extreme trashy parks where I can not dig big holes anyway. As far as the reliability of the discrimination highly mineralized ground conditions affect them all. Remember this was not a $1700 detector either, unlike Monty my ground conditions are not extreme so it works like a champ for me. I have went into those parks and cherry picked the coins and dug very little trash, could I have left something I'm sure I did, but those hunts are quick and easy in place where I can not take a shovel with me, if I did I would not be allowed back.Watch 53 silvers video on the golden there is a learning curve as with anything, but the main thing is to use it for what it was intended.

I watched all the videos of 53 silver and others. The notch system seems to work pretty well with targets laying on top of the ground.
What I would like to see is a video of targets 3" or 4" under the ground. If someone knows of one please let me know.
Thanks

Used it in parks where the depth of my targets that I'm retrieving are 0 to 3 inches deep like I said I'm able to avoid a lot of trash like foil and tabs not all but most. It is not a depth demon for sure, but for quick shallow hunts it's awesome, it light and has 4 tones so there little to no concentration involved. It's not in my take my shovel line up but it's one of my most enjoyable don't have much time grab and go.:super:

I am not a Notch fan, but I do like to hear a good audio response.

I usually do not like audio Tone ID, unless it works well for the sites I like to hunt. I DO like the Tone ID on the White's XLT, the 2-Tone audio on the MX5 and MXT All-Pro, and I like the 2-Tone and 4-Tone ID on the Teknetics Omega and the 3-Tone on the Nokta FORS CoRe. Working a number of areas from urban parks to urban sidewalk repair, to freshwater and coastal beaches, and both modest mineral conditions to some very high mineralized places. Overall, I never had a Golden µMAX work well for me. Sometimes the best I could get were 3 tones and not 4 tones.

Also, most of the coins I found were between visible on the surface at Lake Havasu, AZ, to no more than about 4"-5". Most, and the Golden µMAX was only worth about half of its value to me when I considered overall performance. I do not like to use Notch Disc., just reject Iron Nails. I got better depth and cleaner signals with other Tesoro models I had then or have today. Matter of fact, the Golden µMAX units I owned and/or used were close to terrible when it came to 'cherry picking' a littered site and I would rather rely on a visual display detector for that task .... even the Tesoro DeLeón, and if you know me, that's really an indication of how terrible the Golden µMAX detectors performed for me.

However, we all have to pick what works for us, so if somebody likes a certain detector and enjoys the results, all the better for them and I wish them continued success.
