Bridle Rosette?

Need help identifying this if anyone can help?

I found it near a 100 year old buidling in University Circle of Cleveland. It has been suggested that this is a bridle rosette but I have no clue as to what the initials CIDCO stand for. Does anyone have any idea? It was such a fun find. Only my 2nd day using Etrac. I love it. Sorry for not measuring it or putting a coin next to it for comparison but I would say it's about the size of a top of a pop can and a bit weighty. I can edit this post later with measurements. Thanks for any tips you can offer.

I found a button listed on flea-bay with a similar stamp; however, it does not mention what the letters stand for. I will ask my dad, as he grew up in Cleveland. I did as well (W 73rd & Denison). Good luck with your efforts. I hope this is a start.

Jeff:

This is absolutely outstanding that you found this!!! I couldn't even come close to finding ANYTHING that even resembled it. Thank you so much!! If you get anymore info, I would truly truly appreciate it. I sent an email to the Cleveland Mounted Police for kicks. I was reading a little history on them and they had several parades in the Cleveland area where I found the rosette.

Again, many thanks for sharing that with me. If I find out anything new, I will be sure to inform you and this site. So cool!!!! :cheekkiss:

I assume they are still using horses in the downtown area? Too cool. I remember seeing them when I was a boy (43 now) and just thinking how neat it would be to have a job like that.

Sadly enough, with so many buildings in Cleveland in decay, I am certain there is no shortage of hunting sites available. I can only imagine how many empty schools are in the area. Keep us posted and I will do the same...

I actually drove to the Cleveland Mounted Police station. It was awesome. Small little place but I couldn't believe they still were active which I think is great. They were so helpful and eager to see my treasure but couldn't be much help. It was nice that they took an interest though. Actually, one of the deputies offered to buy it off of me right then. I told him I wanted to know what it was first before I considered that. ha ha. I am so interested in the history of this.

Hope your dad has some answers...thanks again for your help. You are right about the empty schools by the way!!

Is it possible that the letter I comes first since it is the highest. ICD co. instead of CDI or CID.

I think the letters are staggered from left to right. And even though the D overlaps the I some, the CENTER of the D is still passed the I. Although, with that same theory if the I was intended to be the first letter it would still be such a narrower letter then the C or D that it would never appear to be in front of either due to the overlapping issue. For example, the CENTER of the I and CENTER of the C are already so close that its debatable which should be considered first. With Daves theory, it would seem the I is first since it is highestest, and makes sense because the 3 letters do stagger MORE in a downward direction than they do from left to right. So you should consider the order with the most dramatic direction to be more accurate. Or its just possible that we have already put more thought into the order of the initials than the ORIGINAL designer did when he made it. lol

Precisely. I say that because at the turn of the millennium, I wondered if all the zippers stamped with YKK were Y2K compliant. Come to find out, they are the initials for the company that manufactures these zippers...LOL

For what it's worth, perhaps you might ask the individual who has the similar button listed on E-Bay.
