Brian's second outing was...

...a little better. It was cold and windy this morning so we waited until this afternoon to go to his old school and hit the playground.

Brian doesn't have much stamina or arm strength so after he dug a nickle and a couple of pennies he took a rest.

He searched a little while longer but pulled a muscle in his right arm swinging the machine. I need to figure out some sort of a sling that will help support the weight of the machine. I took over swinging and let Brian dig the rest of the finds.

Here is a close-up of the cross. I've never found a cross before and Brian was thrilled with it.

The Garrett Ace 250 is an impressive machine. I am really impressed with how well it discriminates. We ran it in coin mode and at about 3/4 sensitivity to avoid digging a lot of trash. As he gains experience we will try relic mode to gain some extra depth. Right now I just want to cherry pick so he doesn't get discouraged. I don't take my machine yet, I want to be able to help Brian until he feels comfortable on his own.

It will be interesting to see how it does in an old, trashy yard and relic hunting. Depth is a concern but it should do fair on large lead objects like CW bullets.

Our finds for the year are:

Brian: $1.57
Me: $0.00

Some nice finds there. Doug I have seen slings for metal detectors. The sling fits snuggly on the chest of the user and a teather comes off the sling and holds the weigth of the detector.

Here is a link to a site that has them:

Those are some nice finds! LOVE the cross. I see a little gold in your future for sure!

Doug:

The Swingy Thingy is pretty good. It really helped me out when I first got the Exp. (my arm was killing me) Send me your address again and I'll send you mine (hopefully I know where it is :) ) I don't use it anymore. It has an adjustable shoulder harness with a bungee cord that attaches to the shaft. You can adjust the length of the bungee too. It makes the weight "negative" so you push down on the MD instead of having to keep it lifted up.

The swingy-thing sold by docs in Nevada. Just check the Lost treasure magazine or website. Its basically a adjustable bungy cord with a hook on the shaft, it connects to a small chest harness. I use one with a heavy whites 14" coil. HH
