Brass Symbol Plate Help

Hello to all.
I was curious to know if anybody has any idea as to what this brass plate may have been used for and what the center symbol is?
It was dug up on the east coast, was bent on one side and hammered down to it's original flat form.
Any help would be appreciated.

Possibly a back plate for a door knocker? First guess…..
Second could be plate around a door bell

That is an interesting piece… being it is brass, it must have been a decorative piece..
I am curious about it too… hope someone can identify it for you.
