...the English Penny is from the 1890's. The Regiment button from the 1870's there abouts (back stamp: Smith & Wright Birmingham). That is a Victorian Queen's crown, over the VR (Victoria Regina) cypher. I am not sure what Regiment or rank this button is from.
In Feb at the same site, I dug the 4" brass smoking pipe. The patina on it is beautiful, like you see on 100+ coins. For that reason, I'd like to think that it from the same era, possibly lost by a soldier of a British Regiment of Foote.
The edges of the bowl are somewhat sharp however, not worn real smooth like you might expect on an old pipe that has seen lots of use and the word India has been scratched into the bottom of the stem. The only thing that I can find like it is a pipe of the same dimensions and shape (but with an ornate pattern) imported from Inda and sold on marijuana supply sites. My wife thinks it is a pipe tossed in the 70's when the cops went past.
I dropped into the Tobacco Shoppe and got a nice tin of Squadron Leader and one of Sweet Killarney. Nice little pipe that fits into the pocket. I'd like to think that it once fit into the pocket of a Brit soldier who carried it with him from British Inda way back when.
Whaddya think?
