Brass Plate Interlocking USN

Carter NY

New member
This was found in the ocean at an old dock site. It appears to have had a lead backing that is now gone. All that is left is this brass shell. The interlocking USN is very similar to the Continental Army USA buttons but I don't believe it is that old. It measures a little over 2" in diameter. Any ideas?

It is a United States Navy button for sure. The part you have would have been the front which was rolled over the missing back part. I am trying to find that exact era of your button but I am having a little trouble matching it due to it's size. I'll get back to you if I find more. -Marc

Too large for a button but with the missing lead backing, I would look at it maybe as an early belt buckle?
