Brass or Copper Button/Knob ?

This has me stumped. It's oval in shape and the face looks like a button or knob of some sort, has a 1 1/2 inch stem coming out the back that has been bent. I'm going to clean it better to see if it has any marks on it.

Thank you for any suggestions !
 
I thought it might be a cuff link too, but it's so big and heavy. It came up as an 80 on my detector, which could be bronze for my particular model. Thank you !
 
Looks like it maybe a brad for holed paper.
Put the point through the hole and bend it over.
I really have no clue... Just a guess..
