A week ago I took my kids and grandson out for dinner. On the way to the restaurant I noticed a 1700's house that was apparently being prepared for teardown. The house was gutted and a wooded area next to the house had all the trees cut down. I couldn't get back there for 2 days (which killed me!).
When I got back last Friday, the area next to the house was graded by a bulldozer and the area where the trees were cut was cleared. Luckily there were a couple of the workers still there and I got permission to hunt.
Between a few hours on Friday and a few hours on Sunday I found about 15 buttons of various types (including an eagle and a pewter flat). Also found a KGIII 1776, another toasted KG and a toasted LC. (other coins were a Buffalo and a few older wheats (1917, (2) 191.
On Sunday I dug the bell in back of the house. My next reading sounded bigger and deeper and I almost wet my pants when I pulled out an almost complete brass shoulder epaulette !! I was STOKED !! I need help with I.D. & info. Any experts out there ?
If you look at the 3rd photo ( the back of the house ), the epaulette was found near the outer edge of the grass line in the bottom right of the photo. It was 8-10 inches deep. The upper plate has damage and I want to restore it but not until I get I.D.
I would have loved to find some older silver but I ain't complainin'. It was great to hunt and not have to deal with alot of trash. The majority of signals were old targets. I don't even want to think about what might have been bulldozed out. I did scan any dirt piles.
Thanks for sharing. Bruce
