Brand new v3i user/experienced ctx user

My V3i is on the way. I have used the ctx and a few other detectors including a spectrum xlt. So i have a few questions:

It is a used model so, in case I need it, how do i do a hard reset?

I know ground balancing is the first thing I should do when I get to a site. How do i PROPERLY ground balance?

Most of my sites are cleaned out meaning that there's hardly any trash left, let alone coins. Which program should i use to get the feel of the machine? Which will net me deep coins? Which will be the best at unmasking?

I am pretty tech savvy and I love tweaking machines, however, I have heard a lot of stories about users getting frustrated with the machine. How can i avoid this?

I have read and saw a few instances with bad coils. How can i tell if i have a bad one?

I have watched quite a bit of youtoobe videos on the v3i including actual field use and I have read about seven pages of this forum so I got about 5 hours of "simulated experience". I am pretty excited about this machine as i saw it do some amazing things. Anyway, thanks for reading and replying.

Call Whites so they can walk you through. It is easy but if you accidentally hit calibrate you have to send it in.

I know ground balancing is the first thing I should do when I get to a site. How do i PROPERLY ground balance?
• Squeeze/hold the Trigger, then press/hold ENTER.
• Pump the search coil over the ground (1-12 inches) until the
background hum becomes steady (usually 4 to 6 times). Make
sure you do this over an area free of targets.
• Release ENTER, then release the Trigger, and begin searching.

I find it can take many more than 4 to 6 times.

Most of my sites are cleaned out meaning that there's hardly any trash left, let alone coins. Which program should i use to get the feel of the machine? I'll let the newer guys answer this one. Which will net me deep coins? Deep Silver, a Mixed mode program, single frequency or combination of all of these.Which will be the best at unmasking? A low recovery delay and small coil.

I am pretty tech savvy and I love tweaking machines, however, I have heard a lot of stories about users getting frustrated with the machine. How can i avoid this? Start with a stock program and then gradually makes changes when you understand what the changes do.

I have read and saw a few instances with bad coils. How can i tell if i have a bad one? It is bad if it will not do RX15, with boost off, and the coil held waist high in the air. I would perform this outside.

From my experience asking one question per post usually gets better and more detailed answers.

First, Thank you Rob for taking time to answer my questions. Second, the answers you provided are just what i needed. May the hair on your toes, never fallout!

I happened to see you posted on another forum. They don't seem to talk about the V3I over there.

I believe in the gathering of knowledge and, I also like to impart my knowledge. Anyhow, the v3i is an incredible machine. When it hits, it hits hard. I got out with it for an hour and it was great!!!! I will be posting some good stuff when i get the machine down a little more.
