Brand new Garrett at pin pointer low battery problem?

Just got my new Garrett AT pin pointer yesterday and took it out for a test drive. was working well for the first hour and then started giving me the low battery 2 tone alarm any time I went near metal. I also noticed that the pin pointer reacts to the Tesoro Cutlass II umax and vise versa. when I got home I checked the battery and it was still showing full charge or at least as much charge as a brand new Duracell 9 volt. Is there some problem with the pin pointer or am I doing something wrong?

Not knowing how you tested the battery I'd first try another battery. If you just took the battery out and tested it with a meter it could still read a good 9v and appear ok because it's not under load. Usually when the battery in the AT gets weak it gets flakey (i works for a few minutes if you let it rest and then sounds the alarm again).

Also, the battery may not be making good contact. There is small piece of rubber disk inside the cap that is suppose to press on the battery to force a good contact. If it's missing or compressed the connection can be poor. You can easily test it by putting a piece of cardboard (or even a a dime) between the battery and the cap and see if it then works.

You could have also have a faulty AT and I have no idea why it would interact with the detector unless you a have them to close to one another. If they are 2 close, they will detect each other.

I used the same battery today and it worked for about an hour then went into continuous replace battery signal and everything was fine once I changed the battery,I was a little worried for a while!

You're not alone. When I purchased mine it was a pre-order because the AT hadn't been released yet. I remember liking the pin pointer a lot but being VERY disappointed because it at the battery in less than a full day of hunting and I presumed the battery was new. I guess it wasn't new because when replaced with a new Duracell it now seems to run for months at a time. I don't actually time battery life it's a real long time. I thin the manual said approx 40 hours but don't quote me on that.

Hope it now works flawlessly for you.
Happy Hunting

And carbon batteries are the cheapest you can buy in quality and price. They don't last very long under a load nor do they have a long shelf life. So, no surprise some of you are having issues. And, not all 9 volt batteries are the same size either. Some of the 9 volt batteries are a tad shorter then others. Which means some of those cheap batteries out here are cheaper because they contain less electrolyte. And because they are shorter, they cause issues with the contacts inside the electric pin pointers. Stick with good, common name 9 volt batteries.
