Brand new Fisher cz3d

silverseeker 2

Well-known member
Need help!!
Received my brand new cz3d yesterday.Nickels won't ring a high tone in the enhanced mode.
They register as pull tabs.I ran 20 different nickels past coil. Not one registered in the
nickel range.Switched to salt mode and everyone rang in the high tone audio and registered
as a nickel on meter. When in enhanced mode ,nickels ring as a midtone.Found my first silver with it as it rang a high tone which it should do along with a wheatie.Do I need to send
machine to Fisher which will be another added cost?Already contacted dealer and he will call fisher monday but I thought maybe someone knows something different. Thanks much to anybody that can help!!!Can I request a new machine if not working properly? Feeling discouraged.
Machine was brand new in box and sealed.
Thanks again to anybody reading this....

Nasa Tom, who invented the CZ3d posted a very informative post regarding the 3d & nickels. I had the same problem with my 3d. If you want to email me, my email address is: mtdoramike@wmconnect.com.

according to what i have read the cz-3 in the enhanced mode id's nickels in an air test lower than coin. in the ground the older nickels that would id lower are brought up to coin but so are the pulltabs in the ground.

Your machine is working just fine. As mtdoramike suggest take a look at the CZ classroom forum.

From what I have seen in the various fisher forums you'll just have to rely on finding nickels in the ground with your 3d as any other type of indications don't count. nasa Tom has spoken. cz3 no good in air tests only in ground and get this even when you bury a new or old coin it doesn't count either. Is this a new minelab cz ? Wow.

It's suppose to know the difference of coins in the ground mostly not to be like other cz's that can find either in the air tests or ground. ( better find a virgin place that you know for sure there are coins to be found , you know one of those places nobody has ever been to with a detector of any kind) to be able to test your 3d at. can't be any modern trash around either.
Thats the way the 3d is suppose to work from what I have been seeing lately and according to Nasa Tom. I guess i said enough best do like Motoramike says follow some of the other forums you stumble onto the posts related to 3d expert performances. The more I read about it the less I am convinced how reliable or good it is.

sounds kind of like using the coinstrike . You got to get use to finding stuff only in the ground.

good luck

I had the very same problem and sent the CZ3D to Fisher in El Paso. When returned it detected nickels
properly. Some of the excuses Ive read in reply to your complaint are pure nonsense. I also have other
problems like reading zinc pennies as copper and ground balancing on a dry salt water beach. I have
had the machine and coils to Fisher 3 times, and after $125 and a replaced 10 1/2" coil, my solution is
to sell it. I never had any of these problems with two CZ6a's I had for 13 years.

right!..so if it does that, where is the benefit in using it?..especially in trashy "old" sites where you are talking a "ton" of aluminum crap seemingly just about everywhere!

the 3d is one of the best detectors i ever used ......if you learn it and use it at a old site you will be amazed .....swing slow and listen ....its the only detector that hit on super small 3 cent pieces for me .......and there small ........and its deep in the right ground .....give it some time and learn it ...you wont be upset . i wish i still had it ....

may i ask then, why did you sell it!..i was interested in it at one time, but then i realized that any and all "old" sites would not allow me to run in advanced mode because of the constant "high" tones hits from aluminum trash!..i am a patient detectorist, but not THAT patient to dig constant high tone trashvirtually ALL the time in that mode,..to be honest i think the wondh.h!)erfull cz-5 would be a better choice with a 5" hockey puck on board!..

Please understand that the 3D does not hit high tone on "all" aluminum trash, that is a bit miss leading. The only trash that I had a problem with was can slaw...sharp pieces hit by a mower, bottle caps ,"only if they are smashed" and few beaver tails...tabs without the ring. Your aluminum tabs still register tabs and I don't hunt around the trash bins anyway. I like to hunt out around the edge of the woods or open areas as well, places other seem to do the least hunting. Off the beaten path seems to do well for me. I do not have much trouble at all and still dig 80% good targets are better. We all dig some trash and if not, you are missing stuff for sure. It is the iffy signals that get you every time and remember...you can always flip a switch and recheck it in the standard mode if you like. My advice, just don't run the sensitivity to high, around 4 - 4 1/2 is good enough, check your signals from all directions, check your depth of the target and if you are hunting coins only...size it when pinpointing. From what I have notice about running enhanced mode in parks from other members here is, either you hate it or you love it. I happen to love it and it really seems to be working well for me.
