Brand New F75 LTD with "stains" on the LCD display?

My brand spanking new F75 LTD arrived this evening, and I assembled it and tried a few air tests, which thus far are not so impressive no matter what mode and other settings I use, but I'll take it out tomorrow for dirt testing which I'm sure will be much more impressive.

At any rate, has anyone noticed a staining on their LTD's LCD display? It looks like a water stain, but is probably some kind of sloppy chemical wash stain left from the LCD manufacturer.

Obviously it doesn't affect the operation, but a brand new $1200 top of the line flag ship detector shouldn't have this defect, cosmetic or not, simple as that.

To see it the easiest you need to be in a dark or dimly lit room, although once you notice it, it's easily noticeable in the light. In this example you can see a big stain to the right of the left hand settings column and another one on the bottom left (this isn't mine, mine is actually worse):

I guess it's going back to FT for a new LCD display

Oh that sucks but don't give up on the LTD it does take a bit getting use to it. I find less sens works best and on one target the air gap was the difference in getting the tone or not the DE mode missed it..Try setting it up at sens 62 and disc 15 BP mode and get use to the power..then try a ) disc and keep your sens at about 60-65 more is not better in Calif..

Sorry Brian, That has got to suck!

Are there anymore LTD left.....we hope to see you Saturday so you can out hunt us with your stain....just close one eye and you will be OK I won't say anything about your stain....like hey Crosby did you see Cal's stain...remember this machine is very different in BP mode you won't see a big difference till you find a fringe target then go into DE mode by pressing on the Red button and swing and see if you can still pick up the target....the other new mode if you swing slow enough may be great for turf hunting may go as deep as your CZ70 with that huge coil maybe deeper I know the air gap works I tested it first hand

well mine only shows em in low light and it does not interfere with display info .....
personally mine is so hot that I aint letting anyone touch... this bad boy .....
I thought it was just condensation behind the backlight because you only see it in low light or after it cools down at night...
And I could swore i seen it dissipate....( but you may be right) really do'nt bother me or my finds!
just my 2 cents 90 % of great finds is attitude....
AS long as this bad boy is moppin up behind the e-track it aint goin Nowhere cept my hand....
so if you compare price tags and finds... this poor ole shoddy detector is... kickin butt and takin Names....Yea please do not buy ONE!
I like having the only One in a hunderd miles.....suits me fine...

ps it may be where they glued the light fibers(fiber optics) to the display and LED ...dont know.. dont care...
Low and SLOW......Take the time to learn it well....it is not a fast study; do'nt matter if you owned a F75....its a 75 Ford LTD...sweet!l little glue behind the screen gives it that nice Factory Fresh Smell....:cheekkiss:

Happy Trails

Mine has a spot on the screen also. The detector works great but has that spot on the screen.
I'll wait and see what others say. Hate to send it back.It works great other wise.
I got an E-track also and the F75 LTD is finding what it's missed in old house sites.

Keep on detecting. Spots or not

Mine looks real good. No blotches. Have had it out in a very light mist, got it a bit muddy and carefully wiped down with damp rag. Display is not like the one pictured above, it's even and nice looking.

As to air tests, have not gotten out the wood yard stick to measure the LTD, but my two CZ's with the 8 inch coil air test 9 inches on copper pennies (like I've read they are supposed to) and the LTD in boost mode at sensitivity of 50 makes the CZ's look bad when doing quick target checks of various coins. (The 12 inch sunray coil adds about 1.5 inches on the penny with the CZ6a.)

Hope your outing with the LTD goes well. I know you have been doing very well with your CZ and the big coil.

I couldn't see it today....odd

No worries here, it's definitely :hot: HOT :hot: where I tested it today and .... what I couldn't believe ..... it was SUPER stable in EMI city running bP mode, disc=7 and sensitivity cranked to 75  Err...actually I meant to say it really sucks, don't waste your money buying one if you live in Northern California...yeah that's it :drinking:

I can tell from the 4 hours I had it out this afternoon that it's going to work very well , but I have lots to learn with it, although similar in a lot of ways to my F70, it's different enough to be different

Good for you Cal mine is the same but if we hut skunk park and I hope you come that will be a good test becasue the ground gets that salt water on it...In wet ground my F75 and LTD went crazy but I am learning that I don't need as much Sens...it is a fun machine and a better machine

If you are over wet salt dirt, going to manual GB at low number settings (teens and single digits) and checking it frequently may help you. Tinfoil wrote a lot of details in a Sept 1 post about hunting over wet salt at the beach. Might want to look at that. I found very similar settings worked well on a beach trip I took with the LTD.

Seal the control box in a plastic bag with fresh "Silica gel" or other desiccant material. If its water it will/should be pulled out by the desiccant. I used to do this with foggy watches. Good luck to you all.

Hey - I'm in N. Calif and yeah, mine sucks - sucks target signals wherever I swing that thing - meaning that's a good thing:puke:

My 2009 F75 "Classic" also has a stain.
Never noticed it, until today in the dark, with the background light on.
It's more to the right, compared to the picture above.
Never noticed it before

NE edge skirts of Sacramento.
I guess the bay area has some old parks - A friend had a nice hunt less than a year ago when he hunted a park while he was visiting the bay area.
I know a hand full of folks in N. Cal who frequent Finds Forum.
Now if I could kick the flu I have had since before turkey day and get a good day of warmer weather to get out and detect - oh well :ranting: at least I can read/see on how others are doing while I sit at home and wait it out.
BTW - the display screen on mine appears crystal clear.
