I bought that 10 meg Canon Digital Rebel and am messing with it. It came with a lens that does both Macro and Zoom. I have not been able to get a dang decient Macro with it yet. I have to stand so dang far from the bug to get it to focus that I have to paint the bug florescent orange to even see the dang thing.

With my Sony camera I could get within an inch and compose the picture and got some decient ones but this sucker I have stay three dang feet away before it will auto focus. I tried manual focusing it but it is suck a long shot that I can not see its antenna or legs to tell if it is in focus.

Is there another lens I need to be able to do deceint Macros? I know from nothing.

I am sure the camera is fine but the operator sucks. :D RM knows how that feels:thumbup:

Kit lenses are okay for all around use but for true macro capabilities you'll definitely need another. I use the Sigma 105mm 2.8 and it is my favorite of all my lenses - not just for macros but it's great for portrait work as well.

Here's a fly on my lenscap I took with it awhile back.

But if you want to shoot super duper crazy macros get yourself another lens and reverse mount them to each other:

Royal,
I have the Digital Rebel XTi now and had the Digital Rebel XT previously.

The XTi performs basically like the XT did, only "easier", but as far as the macro goes, I could focus at very short distance with either..

This photo was taken quite close up... Are you letting it select the focus point, or are you selecting it?

I am letting it select the focus point. I don't understand enough about it yet to make much in the way of changes. If I use the little lens I use the macro setting but if I use the macro lens I change it to macro and do not use the macro setting. Frankly it is all experimental to me at this point.

I have sent for a video on the camera but it has not come yet. I am thinking about buying a dedicated macro lens but have to do some research on them. I have yet to win the dang lotto so I have to go slow.

Thanks you for responding to my post:thumbup:

I sure have some learning to do. I can not hold the camera still enough as it is without that reverse stuff :D
